I agree with that.
The 6600GT would be a great card for him
when u look at what he wants to spend.

he could also get a 6800nu for 300 which is faster than the 6600GT.

I heard somewhere that there is a 6600GT that comes with 256mb instead of 128mb. If thats the case and they are really available id get that if i were him.

I've not seen a 6600 GT with 256. There are standard 6600 cards that come this way, though.

NO way, go for the 6800NU. Even though the memory is slower, these cards, at least my PNY, overclock extremely well. And you can always try unlocking the extra pipes with riva tuner. Why step down 4 pipes just for the 6600?

Yeh..6800nu is v.good compared to the 6600GT, no-doubt, but since he mentioned "nex best thingy to 6800GT/Ultra.." i felt he means, the nex best thing except nv40.
So i/(i gues v all) thought that he is rather lookin for mainstrem good perfrormer.
The Ball is in his court: 6600GT, 6800nu, Or wait!!

The 6800 NU is no GT/ULTRA though so it'S the next best thing. :D
I'd go for one of those as well as long they're available.

6800 non ultra costs 299 has 12 pipes and 256MB mem
6600GT costs 199(agp version currently costs 229) has 8 pipes and 128mb

For the price Id get the 6600GT it is almost as fast as the 6800 and nvidia is discontinuing the 6800 so if the card goes bunk during warranty, it may be harder to get a replacement

Not if you get a BFG.

I'd recommend the 6800NU if you want to play AF/AA better, as the 6600 is a little slower.

Im aware of BFG's warranty as I have 2(6800ultra and 6800 gt), but there was no mention of what brand in his question and may not be able to get a BFG. Yes, if the 6800nu goes bunk and its a BFG, BFG will replace the card with an equivalently priced card if they no longer have any 6800nu's

Aside from that aspect, if BFG is not available, buy the 6600gt. Most Best Buy's tho, have plenty of BFG 6800's on the shelves.

The only 6800 NU with 256 mb of RAM is the Asus card, which costs $400. All the rest have 128 mb.
