really fun LAN games are Battlefield Series (especially POE and DC Final), CS:S, UT2004 and Flatout.

Best lan game is Serious Sam: The Second Encounter.

Call of Duty, C&C: Red Alert, Counter-Strike, Quake 3, Warcraft 3. IMO.

so many suggestions! thanks - they all seem serious hardline games from their titles; no "noughts and crosses" there
but I'll check them out.

It sounds like your looking for a good simple freeware game so try this one.

Flatout is AWSOME on lan. It is total chaos is you are playing 8 on the round map :) very funny

Tried this out. Excellent.

Going through a bit of a LAN obsession at the moment - in an amateur tinkering sort of way. My partner (or my unwilling LAN tester/oponent) who doesn't like hard-core games but does like "noughts and crosses/ battleships" type games etc, to my amazement, loves this!

Even though its not playing quite right (low 3fps frame rate) at the moment.

I'd like to post some 3d benchmarks for feed back; I think there's something serioulsy amis with my system in the 3d area since I'm only getting 3 to 4 fps with scorchedearth3d

Anyone sugges a benchmark program?

We've always played BF1942, Desert combat, Bf Vietnam, CS 1.6 no-steam, UT2004 demo, Call of Duty, star craft brood war, and warcraft 3.

You should give Forgotten Hope a try bud. Its yet another BF42 mod, but its a blast

F1 Challenge 99-02, with all the good mods, like RSDG's SCC, McLaren F1, RH2004 F1 season, etc..

currently, there's a good rFactor multiplayer demo out now too.

Comanche 4 is good fun.
UT2004 Bot DM is also fantastic.
