Crytek now ATI Partner? Strange... Especially after they were all over PS3.0. This techdemo is a modified Far-Cry engine demo, with PS2.0b.

ATI and CryTek's x850 Techdemo:

Is this like a preview for a Prequal/Sequal to FarCry?

saw the movie, but have no speakers... is there any particular reason why the nv40 can't run that demo?

Now I'm confused. That movie ends at the beginning of Far Cry. Where Jack's boat gets blown up. What's going on? And is there really no sound? I didn't have any. Weird.

Crytek has said before that they support using nvidia cards and ati cards. Farcry is for both, to crytek it doesnt matter. I see no problem with ati using the farcry engine for a tech demo. Its great marketing for them. But, Crytek is still a nvidia partner as well, even though nvidia hasn't yet used the farcry engine for a tech demo. At least not yet. Maybe a nvidia tech demo with the doom 3 engine, that would be nice.

That is certainly an impressive video... can't wait to see the first videos rendered on 512MB card SLI setups. :D

I can imagine the texture resolution on 512mb cards :drooling:

/Me likes high res textures... Good ol John Carmack could learn a thing or two from high resolution textures :)

Crytek did a tech demo for nvidia back in the Geforce 3 days. It had a dinosaur walking around on an island. In fact Farcry was supposed to be similar to that and was once called X-Isle. I suppose somebody thought it might be a bit more fun shooting at mutants instead.

Actually when they made that demo they had 2 projects in mind: one was going to be an "edutainment" game about dinosaurs and stuff (not unlike what they showed a bit of in the tech demo), while "X-isle" was a shooter that was eventually turned into Farcry. Not sure what ever happened to the edutainment/dinosaur idea, but at least they eventually made a game out of the Cryengine.

Interesting that they're doing a tech demo for ATI now. Not really surprising, it seems like both companies are paying big bucks to developers for showing off their card's tech. At least we get some pretty demos out of it, I just hope they don't start making "exclusive content" for games based on which cards you have (like the "ATI levels" for HL2 which rumor suggested would only be playable on x800 cards, though I highly doubt it's true).

Rumors say that the demo will be available the 1st december, with the launch of the X850

I think this demo will include some Ati specific optimizations such as 3DC compression. Otherwise I see no reasons why it shouldn't run on other DirectX9 hardware, probably including the old GeForceFX cards, considering that PS 2.0b is a subset of PS 2.0a

I think Crytek has show us that the can be baught by anyone. The inclusion of PS3.0 and the hack of PS2.0b are two examples of things Farcry (the game) did not need but got added anways....;

So long as the games get better and we get more bang for our buck on the vidoe cards....meh :)

that looks a bit better than stuff in farcry, pretty good lookin. Skimpy Bikini nicely rendered btw.

They should have put a ATi tatoo right on her a$$ so theyd get advertising in an area of the screen the consumer is actually paying attention to.
