Since I have everything as I like it inside my rig, I think it's time for a little upgrade on the outside. I am only interested in CRT's and recomendations.

I currently own a Samsung SyncMaster 3Ne - specs here (http://www.griffintechnology.com/archive/monitors/Samsu14.html) and thinking of upgrading to a CTX VL701B - specs here (http://www.ctxintl.com/products/crt_VL701.htm)

Any other suggestions on a good CRT ?

If yer stuck on a 17" monitor for any specific reason such as space then to be honest unless you get a trinitron screen there isn't much to seperate one 17" from another. However Iiyama for me is the way to go Cheap too (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=39263)

if however your budget can stretch a little more (about 20-30quid) I would highly recommed a 19"... For gaming especially bigger is deffinately better!

This is an argument I dont understand tbh.

I currently have a 14" monitor, so upgrading to a 17" is going to be ok for me but I am told bigger the better... what can one do that the other cant ?

Ok This is how it works.

17" will be fine for you after a 14". But larger screen area allows you to see more detail. Think of your 14" as a Thumbnail, a 17" as a preview and a 19" as a full size image. Get where i'm coming from now?

Also, generally, but not exclusively, 19" monitors will tend to give you higher refresh rates at higher resolutions. Important if you don't wanna be rubbing your sore eyes or nursing a headach after an hour or 2.

But inevitably, this is my own opinion based soley on my experience over the last 12 years of my computing carear!

Just ordered the monitor I originally wanted which is the CTX VL701B from here (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=64525)

Budget was never a problem, just opinion. I played on a few monitors and this seems like a nice little upgrade from my Samsung. I should get the little beauty this Thursday.

BTW. Happy new year all... ;)

Yeah with your current video card i dont suppose you can go for high res to get a 19" screen . 17" should be fine .

He should have went for a 17" trinitron screen, then it would be better picture and pull 100-120 Hz at 1024x768 rather than 85.

Yep... My 19 I have now pulls 100 at 1024.
I could not stand any less. Headache from hell.

I'm getting a 17inch LCD by Samsung with a 12ms response time. :D

Yeah but he has been using 60hz for so long, moving to 85hz will still be as good on his eyes ;)
