This question has just recently been asked and I think the concensus was the OCZ. However, you might want to take a look at this review which I thought was well done and it does cover both of your selections: http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q4/psus/index.x?pg=1

Very Interesting.....Both of those PSUs look pretty big, do you think they'll fit in my CM Preatorian midtower?

The OCZ is the largest by about a half-inch or a full six inches in length. I would think both would fit OK just might be a little tight in your mid-tower Praetorian case. Usually there is about a 1/2" difference between a mid- and full-tower case in length so you are losing about an inch of space available for the psu.

Just measure the mounting area in your case and see how much room you have for a 6x5.5x3.5" psu.

every forum has it's concensus - and it's usually a bit different on every forum. ther are also more cost consious PSU's that are extremely good that not too many people realize are good. but you certainly wouldn't be wrong with going with that ocz. fortron and enlight have good budget units, sparkle also makes a rebranded fortron 530w unit that is very good. allied has 2 good power supplies (both are aluminum). enermax noisetakers are very good.

also ocz is extremely good with warranties. i have dealt with their memory team before and they are a pleasure to deal with - antec tech support (rma) is a nightmare.

I would get an OCZ but they are too big for the case that I am getting (Lian-Li v1000). So, I'm going with an Antec Truepower 550.

I'd recommend a Tagan 480. I know it's little known but I've got one in my setup and it's been excellent, nice black finish, braided, twisted cabling, loads of connectors (inc SATA), 20db as well, it's silent virtually. The reviewer at hexus.net used one with an SLI ultra/FX55 setup and found it handled it easily, all the other reviews I've seen have been positive, it's also much cheaper than most of the competition. Food for thought perhaps?

OCZ just announced their new modstream today which is not as big as the powerstream.
It has modular plugs and a single 120mm fan.

I am waiting to see what kind of specs it has since its not supposed to be quite as powerful as the Powerstream (and no adjustable rails, but I'd probably not mess with that anyway). They don't have the details up yet, just a few pictures and basic information.

Edit: They have the specs up now.
450W: +3.3V(28A), +5V(45A), +12V(26A)
520W: +3.3V(28A), +5V(52A), +12V(28A)

the OCZ PSUs don't even have a PFC (Power Factor Correction) which is like no fuel injection in other terms. In the EU all PSUs must have an Active PFC (there's passive too) because without aPFC the PSU won't fullfill the effeciency/environmental requirment, something to think about.

Here is an explanation of Active and Passive PFC for anyone interested:

I LOVE mine.
Best PSU I've ever run.
Beats my Antec hands down.

It's won a tons of awards and only great reviews.

Yeah the European OCZ models have active PFC because its required there.
It doesn't help the performance of the actual supply or computer so comparing it to fuel injection seems kind of strange to me.

I'm not trying to promote OCZ but the modstream looks really nice to me. If the build is as good as the Powerstream it should do really well.

I know everyone who has an Ultra XConnect loves them, but they just look wimpy on the inside, it scares me. Its just a thing I have about hardware I guess.
