Seen as there is a thread about the bug with the flashlight on certain textures with nvidia cards I thought id make another thread about the bug with very faint vertical bars appearing in the water.

http://www.rfhdisruptor1.btinternet.co.uk/Waterbug.jpg

Its more noticable on some other parts of the game, but barely noticable on shallow water.

There was a thread posted about it last week here but it didnt really go anywhere...

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=170274

I'm using the 67.02 drivers with 4xaa 16xaf at 1280 x 1024 all optimisation disabled highest ingame settings. I dont think its a problem with this particular driver as the person in that thread used a few different sets.

I noticed we both have 6800 series cards, anyone else notice this issue?

I've seen that on my 5900 as well.... And the bug list continues... :(

I haven't noticed that but the one water bug that drives me nuts is how it renders objects in the distance under water incorrectly. I have tried 66.81, 66.93, 67.02 and 67.50 and the bug is present. See screenshot below.

Yep, I have this bug too :retard:

I have used the 66.93 and 67.02 and the problem is still there.

I have a Gainward 2400 goldensample (66800 GT at Ultra speeds)

When i have some free time i'll try it on my 9700 pro and see if its present on that card.

Why does your 9mm look so dirty and stuff? Mine looks super shiny.

It is shiney but not flat. It has a bump on it so some lighting makes it look like that.

I like the effect actually :D

I have the same problem.

XFX 6800 GT with 67.02 beta drivers.
Also had it with 66.93 drivers, and 65.73.

It's odd you say that because anything HL1 based renders fine for me.

i get that with my 6800 Ultra using the 67.02...

I've seen it as well at the exact same spot. I'm using the 67.02 drivers. It looks like some kind of vertical banding due to poor shader replacement.

I do too...how do I enable it? I thought I had everything on and maxed in the game.

can anyone take a screenshot at the same time with an ATI card to see if it occurs with those also? Might just be the way its programmed.

I think those faint lines are linked to the "fog banding" issue that nvidia has. Which inturn is a crude optimization to reduce the complexity of fog effects at the expense of image quality.

Does ATI really not have the fog banding bug?

Nvidia and ATi have different rednering. Ati renders correctly and Nvidia redners incorrectly...

Can you or anyone with an ATI card take a screenshot of the water? Is this banding issue really Nvidia specific

Yup get it here aswell. Think this also happens in EQ2's sky if you look up... you can see banding and its not blended in well.

The banding is nVidia specific. I tried the game on a 6800Ultra and an X800Pro and noticed the banding only on the nVidia card -- the image quality was fine on the X800. It was most noticable on the beach, I didn't really notice it in the canals or in other locations with water.

Man maybe I have low standards.....................but dam I did not notice any bugs like that cuz I was PLAYING the game.

I see it in the STILL screen shot, but it seems insignifigant. I predict console games, especially after the PS3 and Xbox2 come out, will be the death of PC games. With ONE hardware platform for everyone (per console vendor)......bugs like this will be easy to find and get rid of.

they have been saying that about consoles for ever now. Its not going to happen. Phantom anyone?

When XBox came out it was ahead of any PCs then...but look at it now. I just love the GF3 graphics over my 6800u, don't you?

This is sort of ontopic since it concerns nVidia cards and HL2, but a guy over at the [H]ardForum in the "Video Cards" section has posted (unproven at this time) info about Valve having crippled nVidia's FX cards in HL2, and a couple of tweaks to fix it.

I won't post a link to there, here, as I'm sure the mods wouldn't like that.
