Half Life 2 DX9 - Spivey returns

Hi all you peeplez.

I'm back... probably noone remembers me...okay, cool

I've been realy enjoying my Albatron 5900nu until Half Life 2 where I get only DX8.1! Probably a beaten down subject by now. Going to get an Albatron 6600 GT I suppose for christmas. I upgraded my system except my RAM which is old winbond Mushkin 2100 running in dual channel for over a gig.

Anyways I'm back in college and still gameing a little - Biology major.

Question: Will it ever be possible to play Half Life 2 in DX9 with my 5900nu?
Could a patch or new driver set fix this or is this a technological limitation?

I'd love to se Half Life 2 in full DX9 dammit! You would expect my card should be capable at a general consumer level knowledge.

Your card can run in DX9 mode, but only at lower resolutions with no AA and low AF. I belive the command is mat_dxlevel 90 . If you want to switch back to 8.1 mode replace the 90 with 81.

Runs pretty good on my system when the game runs anyways (it crashes sometimes with a memory "read" error, but many people have this same issue). I play at DX 9 mode, 1152 x 864 resolution @ 75 Hz, no AA, 8x AF, High Performance, all game settings on their highest. Not bad at all for an AMD 1800+ and a 5900NU (flashed) I must say :)

Well I find this a bit strange. I'm running HL2 at 1152x864 with everything maxed out with Aniso 8x and AA x4 and HL2 engine is super fast. I'm executing my own cfg file to force HL2 engine to run in Directx9 mode with the following:

mat_dxlevel 90
mat_clipz 0
cl_ShowSunVectors 1
r_waterforcereflectentities 1

In game when I check the video option it shows that the engine is in Directx9 mode but I'm not really sure if that's true because like I said the game is super fast. I can't even use AAx4 on FarCry and that is Directx9 engine...

I've tried the 3D Analyze hack myself but I get a noticeable hit in the framerate even enabling partial precision
