Definitely not worth it if you already have a X800 XT-PE. I wonder what price the X800 XT-PE will drop to?
is that the final version
OMFG!!!!1!!111ONE! 3 WHOLE FPS IN HALF LIFE 2!
Seriously, is this worth a sticky? How do we even know if these are legit?

Intresting, unless it overclocks alot not much of a refresh though.

What a joke.
But ATI did need a PCI-E top end card.
Now they have one. ;)

wow .. 6800U is losing in every benmchmark by little to a lot except doom3 of course ehe
Nvidia has to improve drivers with some "not famous" games too
and of course release a new 6850U for all of us ehehe :)

If these benchmarks are for real... very disappointing ATI. Very disappointing... And what's worse is the XTPE still costs $100 over retail anywhere it's in stock, sometimes more.

According to steam survy there are more owners with ATIs 800XT-PE then the 6800U soo... :)
Now ask how many people have seen the 6800 UE card? I mean if your gonna to laugh at the availibilty card lets make sure you pick the right one to laugh at. At least some people here have the 800XT-PE on this forum..how many have the 6800 UE card here? Thought so :)
I also am not impressed with this ATI new cards. However reports are coming in that they are OC to the 600 mark and Gzeasy benchmarks show some improvements...but yea this release is just barely a meh. From what I have heard this release was more about getting better yeilds to improve supply with a small speed bump. So I guess we should be be expecting much?

Is this really a "new release"? Should it even qualify as such? It's in the gray area IMO... With such a tiny increase in clocks and no architectural improvements of note all this really means is that perhaps ATI is finally getting to the point where they can get XTPE out in volume.

Yes I think it does qaulify as a release. The are using a new procession tech. Any time you shrink a die you run the risk of creating issues. Because they went from lowK u13 to u11 they had to re-do their cooling "solution". Thus board layout had to change. Power requirements had to change. What could ATI do, just start shiping new boards and not say anything? That would not fly at all. So I think its dammed if the do, dammed if they dont.

Oh well then if they did all that I guess I can see it being worthy of a new model name, etc.. I didn't realize they went to an entirely new process.

The 850XT is still on u13 low k. u11 is inferior to u13 low k for the x8xx series. The X800XL is u11 with 16 pipes but its only clocked at 400mhz. The significantly smaller x700XT wasnt even reaching 475mhz that well (its also on u11). The u11 parts are mainly for cost/volume rather than performance. As Nvidia was only using straight u13, u11 should give Nvidia gains if they release a gf6800 ultra refresh on it
I think with higher clock speeds and a different cooling system on it it does deserve a release. If this didnt deserve a release then the fx 5950 ultra/9800XT/geforce 2 ultra/geforce 3 ti 500 wouldnt of deserved a release

Ooo Man the X850 is kicking some Major Nvidia ass :nanahump:
It is the winner in all scores !!!!
That's a marvelous achievement for a OLD TECH wouldn't you say
Lets see the Nvidia refresh...
Too bad that the X850 it will be PCI Express Native only
and only the 10% of the people of the world will care to buy it because of these
Because the other 90% is and will still have for many months a AGP system

I still agree with you its nothing major. Not worth upgrading if you have a 6800/800 already. However for me, my 9700pro that I got more than 2 years ago is start to get long in the tooth...so maybe its something to note..maybe not.

If u care about the X850 u will need to buy a new PCI-e PC too

Except doom3. I guess with PCIe being the next big thing maybe it make some sense? I mean if you have to upgrade is it worth buying an AGP mobo knowing they are on the way out? I am trying to figure that one out now..as I need an xmas present for my self and a system upgrade will do :)

Well that's only 1 game and it was nothing Earth shattering to say the truth

Well if you have already a High end AGP system
And you want to buy a X850 and again a New High End PCI-e system will surely take a lot of money
Something that most people do not have in "big quantity" and are not willing to do it just for a already Expensive card that is only 10% faster from a X800XT-PE and with PS 2.0 shaders again
If Nvidia keeps their AGP-PCI Express Bridge in their solutions for 2005 i guess i will jump to Nvidia
I am not going to Give 1000...Euros for a New PCI-e system for just wanting a Graphic Card

"VS Competition"?
I guess those slides are from ATI, so expect a smaller gap between X850 PE and the 6800U in the benches tomorrow.
What time does the NDA expire btw?

Well thats the issue I dont. I have an 2500xp CPU based system. I want to upgrade to an AMD 64 based solution. The only question is to wait for PCIe or go with AGP? If I end up keeping this mobo for a few years (I have a few other PCs so when I up grade my main one I trickle down to the other PCs) then I should buy it with the foward thinking idea that PCIe will be the standard. I dont want to have to go hunting for a decent AGP card 2 years from now in case my current AGP card dies. And if I go for an NV card then SLI is now an option. Thus I wanted to keep my options open.

Well thats not stoping the SLI users here :)

Yeap I bet you see different scores tomorrow (as Dec 1 is when the NDA expires).
in case if you didn't speak chinese, the title of the Gzeasy article said ATI's official benchmark. so yeah, prob. same as DH's PR bs.. :wong:

Well
I suggest you wait for a AMD PCI-e update if you want to have a system that will last longer
(unless if you want to buy a Intel PCI-E sollution right now) :)
If you have the money for buying a SLI PC and 2 cards then what can isay

Of course
Just like Rage3d these Forum is about Hardware Geeks :)
And surely you will find a lot of "Rich" in here....that spend their money for buying High end hardware every 2 months or have the money for such a Expensive upgrade
But do you think that most of the People of the world have the money to buy a SLI System and 2 graphic cards ??
The same goes for buying a new Pci-e PC
It's not a cheap transition and i am not sure that worths all the money especially if you already a high end AGP system
