We all know the 6800-series cards have some graphical issues that need to be adressed (water-banding, flashligt bug, stuttering bug etc...). Any word from nVidia about solving these bugs? Or do they really expect us users to keep testing different beta versions until we find a working version?

Don't get me wrong, I love my 6800GT, but the way drivers and bugs are managed is very confusing to most people. I also have a X800PRO in my second system (about as fast as the 6800GT) and driver versions/info is more transparent with Ati.

this is a NOT a fanboy post, just a HL2-user who would love to get the most out of his card(s).

That's what I feel as well, the monthly Cat release with driver progress works better for me. With Nvidia it's harder because we only get an official fix list once every 2-3 months.

stuttering bug is an hl2 engine problem not an nvidia problem

as far as I know, it's a problem with the engine IN COMBINATION with the nvidia drivers (at least that's what was said by a Valve programmer)

I dunno but I was in the middle of a driver study for nV news when HL2 updated and rendered all timedemos recorded before the update...useless....ie u cannot play the demo again recorded from a previous versions of hl2!!

ughh

Stuttering apparently occurs on ATi cards too. So it's fault of ATi drivers and Valve too?

Problem is ATI hasn't really made and "progress" with its drivers since the 3.8 set and that was what? 14 months ago?

I think Ati has managed to improve quite a bit with the latest driver releases (Ai for example). I love nvidia, but I think they've gotten a bit off-track with all their beta releases

You still get your "Fixed This/Didn't Fix That" every month instead of every 3-4 as with Nvidia. Maybe you don't care. I do.

Comparing the 4.12b with the 3.8 is like comparing a 8500 with a x800xt

Steam updated HL2 (November 30). Fix is in for 6800 series. Steam updated itself automatically for me.

Which of all bugs did you get a fix for?
