You are welcome, us laptoppers are often forgotten about, even nVidia don't want to know us.
Any probs/info give me a yell.

Enjoy.

Well I installed the driver last night, I'm running HL2 at 8xAAand 16xAS on a stock 6800GT I'm getting an avg of 30 to 40 fps indoors and 100 to 150 outside.

But the stuttering problem is worse now.

I can't install these drivers. I tried installing both the Final version and the Final Version Revision 1. This is the error message I'm getting:

Whether I browse to the correct location and try again, it still doesn't work.

just out of curiosity ... for those of you who have the stuttering problem ... check your IRQs in the device manager and make sure that your video card isn't sharing an IRQ with anything like a soundcard ... my audigy 2 was the culprit behind my stuttering ... i moved it to another PCI slot and it all went away

Optimummind-I get the same message on mine. In addition could not find where the drivers loaded (as the meassage gives you an option once you hit cancel to install without files). Device manager showed then in system.32, but could not locate them. They did show as drivers on the display card for my 6800 Ultra. Using them without the files caused my system to crash so I went back to the original 67.02's. By the way when I went to add/remove programs they were not listed and when I clicked nVidia display drivers and tried to remove them none could be found????

when you double click to open the file it asks where you want to extract the files. extract them to your desktop then open the folder and double click the setup file to begin the installation process.

I was confusing! I got the download ok and also opened up the set-up after I uninstalled the nontweaked 67.02's. My problem was in the actual set-up procedure where I got similar screens as Optimummind. Once I hit cancel install then the drivers evidently went ahead and installed as they were listed in Device Manager under display driver and you could make adjustments in settings. HL2 played much better (graphics/speed). Problem came later when doing normal PC applications it just crashed to desk top with a message missing NV4 mini dll's. Once it auto rebooted, I looked for the tweaked drivers to take them off and could not find then in program files, but they were still listed as display drivers. Went to add/remove and removed nvidia drivers and OS could not find them. Installed old nontweaked 67.02's and no problems now!!! Or are you saying that the extraction needs to be to desktop only as I extracted to a newly named file as I always do for anti virus checks

you can extract right to the desktop. it doesnt extract all the files individualy there is a folder they are already in. so it will extract the folder and the files are all in it.

Looks like these drivers reduce IQ in order to get better fps. The barrels shadows on the left are gone, also is the fog on the buildings in the distance. Not worth it IMO. Reverting.

NV Drivers:

I don't see the barrel shadows in both pics. As for the fog, they are still there in both pictures, isn't it? I fail to see any difference.

BTW, I fixed the installation problem. Instead of installing the driver from my E: drive, I moved the drivers to the C: drive and began installation. Somehow, that allowed me to install correctly. So far, the quality of the drivers have been good.

Before using this set, I was using the 67.50 drivers for about 2 weeks now. I've tested the driver using mostly Vampires: Bloodlines, Larry: MCL, Warcraft 3, and Need for Speed UG 2.

If you dont know how to compare images then please dont comment. Its clear to anyone who knows anything that the fog isnt being rendered, and the barrels do not have shadows when they are not close to the player.

Also the first image I used was from a driver long ago, I forget the revision but its killing me now because the "new" beta drivers from the nzone have the barrels no shadow thing as well, and a couple other differences which are negative towards IQ.

i do not see what your talking about with the barrel. and as you can see the fog is the same its just the colors are slightly differant on the building.

Look at the barrels (open it up in an image program if you have em) then crop it out on the same section. They are behind the fence. These drivers dont render the shadow.

Sorry for sounding like a jerk earlier..I have a 103 fever with pnemounia currently and im not in a good mood.

It's very small, best thing to do is open both pics in 2 windows (or 2 tabs if you have tab capable browser) and just flip between 2 looking only at barrels. You can't miss it than.

Thanks Much! For whatever reason that did work!!!!!!!!! I may have inadvertently installed from my back-up disc instead of off of C drive. Sailing now!!!

I cant see the difference in the shadow but I can see the (lack of) fog. There is a definite difference.

However, you said something about not knowing which driver the first picture was from so I don't see the point really. Surely the only comparison that can be done is whether it is better than the original Nvidia 67.02 upon which it is based. Comparing it to others could be logical if it was wildly different but my guess is that the Nvidia 67.02 also do not render the fog/barrel shadows, as you yourself have said.
