It's finally been confirmed that he used steroids (though he doesn't admit he knowingly used them).

Cross out his records and crack (pun not intended) down on the drugs.

It needs to have that noted in his records. I think Bonds would have done just as well with out the steroids. He is a great player who has BUTT LOADS of tallent and never need the steroids.

BTW He says he didn't know and they didn't work is total BS.

This goes right up there with Clinton's utter confusion as to what the meaning of "is" is. (omg)

next up: Sammy Sosa? one year, he was normal, the next, he was super-huge. steroids? who knows. methinks there should be a lot of asterisks beside player's names in the record books.

I don't know about Sammy, but this whole mess does indeed open up a whole can of worms. Sammy did blow up in size rather drastically in such a short span. This whole steroid fiasco seems to be affecting his possible contract with the Mets. They are now holding back from signing a huge multi-year deal with him, supposedly due to the possibility that his name may appear with a list of others who got supplied steroids.

Congress wants to get involved now. What a joke. The goverment should stay out. It is ONLY a sport. It really isn't that important.

It becomes important if teenagers start taking steroids because they think it's necessary to succeed in sports. Congress has a responsibility to youth.

I'm not sure about this, but are steroids regulated by the FDA?

I agree that parents and coaches should be responsible, but then the same argument could apply to tobacco, alcohol, driving, and just about every other substance or activity that is regulated for minors.

Sure, I see your point about tobacco/alcohol/etc. Unfortunately our society becomes more and more needy for the government to babysit the millions of complete idiots out there...many of which should never even have children IMO, much less to be coaches or mentors of children.

Many (if not all ?) of the human growth hormones are not "illegal", not sure if they are regulated by the FDA or not but I don't think they are. They're only illegal in the realm of the professional sports as dictated by those sports' governing bodies.

Bonds was stupid to do this. Now his records will always be denoted with that little asterisk mentioning that he was pumped on roids. I agree with Yonkers that he really didn't need to do that either... which is partly why it was such a dumbass move to take them.

I understand that but I don't think it is a congressional problem. Congress is using the same ole "for the childern" to enact more legislation. I don't buy it because you can make a case for almost anything for the goverment to step in.

It is up to the parents to raise their children, not the federal goverment.

Congress has a responsibility to protect our borders and let us be responsible for our youth. I don't want congress anywhere near my chidren. Also I don't know of anywhere in the constitution where it says congress has a responsibility to our youth and please don't point to the "ensuring the general wellfare" and "the freedom to persue happiness."

All of those you mentioned are already illegal for minors. All we have to do is enforce the laws on the books alread, arrest doctors, coaches and parents who give these medications to minors. It is as simple as that.
