First off, who here has one? How much does it OC, and how good is it? I just ordered mine from TigerDirect (they have it at a VERRY low price). I should receive my xfx sometime next week. Anyway, are there any tweaks yet such as volt-mod, overclocking, and are there any third party cooling approaches such as arctic cooling? Thank you for reading this.

If you use the search function here, there are plenty of threads discussing this particular card. Here's one to get you started.

I have the 6600 GT from XFX. Got it for $220 from Newegg. Right now I have it clocked to 560/1140 with no problems. Probably could go higher.

Very good performance. Blows my Ti4600 away! Also better than the 9800 Pro I used for a while.

I have one. Ive been having trouble preventing crashes a few minuts into programs, but I solved the issue and it was because of overheating. Its probably due to the condensed Dell case that I have, but never the less a couple extra fans on a slot blower has it running top notch (although im looking for quieter options).

The graphics are amazing, I havent seen 6800's in action but i'd be surprized if they really do that much better :p I dont think I see much of a need for overclocking yet, everythings running so darn good :)

Is it a Dimension 8300 like mine? I'm very curious now to see how it work with your comp. You will definatly need a PS upgrade before it goes it, it sucks though cause its hard to fit all the wires in with the Antec 430 I bought :p

I just got my XFX Geforce 6600 GT yesterday. I have been running a Hercules Radeon 9800 XT for about 8 or 9 months now. I got the 6600 GT to put into on of my son's PCs to replace his aging Ti4400. But, after a little benchmarking, I decided to keep the 6600 GT and give the 9800 XT to my son. heh

Yes, if you are wondering if the 6600 GT is faster than a 9800 XT, it definitely is - by 20-30% or so.

I have the XFX 6600 GT AGP card... unfortunately I have to report that it is worse than my ti4600. I am getting horrible fps drops in UT2004/hl2/cs:s (the only games I have installed atm). Reviews show this card getting 100 fps where I get 70max, 30 ave, with super frequent drops into the 10 fps range. I have tried tons of forceware drivers and the rest of my system has most recent drivers/bios on a fresh install of win xp.

Reading on various forums I have found quite a few other people with the same problem with the agp version of the 6600 gt. No solution sofar.

I'm hoping its driver related... but for now I feel ripped off.

I have a 4700. (or i think). also you do not need to upgrade your psu for this card. a 250W is good enough.

ALSO ---> I sure hope I don't get that problem. with lagging. what is exactly the problem.

No complaints thus far. Wasn't expecting a huge boost from my 9800 Pro system, and I got a pretty decent amount. The only thing holding back the system with the 6600GT is the memory, which will be upgraded soon.

My last card was the venerable 9700 Pro but went with a PCI-E 6600 GT after "The Crash". Fantastic performance over what I used to have and I got the card for < 180 bucks so it's a sweet deal all around. I have only three games installed on my new computer... FarCry, Doom3, and HL2... running all details cranked at 1024 on my 17" monitor with AA and AF and it runs everything just like butter... hit the 60 fps cap in D3 no problem, lol!

For the price, you can NOT beat this card.

Kilgore,

I would RMA that card, and explain the problem you are having.
There is no reason you should have to "just deal with it". If you aren't happy, return it for a refund or exchange.

I am having the same problem with my new BFG 6600GT. I don't know what to do. I have an RMA on the way hoping it's the card.

I installed a PNY 6600GT from Comp*** yesterday (they are on sale this week for $199). Since I have not seen a review on the PNY version of this card anywhere, I will give a short summary of my impression (so far). Initial impression of the board/ cooler is that it certainly follows the reference design, which is good considering the "challenged" coolers that have found their way onto some of the other cards. 2ns RAM is installed on the card with no cooling provided. The card is equipped with dual-DVI, and 1 Component/ S-video port. The component video dongle is included in the package as well as a rudimentary driver/ demo CD and 2 DVI to VGA adapters. No additional software/ games.
I was awestricken by the display over our HDTV using 1080i and the included cable. It was very, very easy to set-up the HDTV display. "Upconverted" DVD's displayed in this fashion are stunning, as are the WMHD clips.
Games were another story, with frequent "pauses", and periods of extremely low framerate. After trying numerous drivers/ BIOS settings, etc we have the card "mostly" stable. Performance is very similar to the card it replaced- a 5800Ultra, except with pixel-shader-intense applications where the 6600GT is substantially faster (nearly 2X).
Overclocking the card was not very encouraging- so far the highest it's been is 550/ 1000 at which some artifacts were noticeable. Seems fine at 540/ 950...

950 DDR? I thought 6600 GT were supposed to have 1000 Mhz DDR3 ?? You said 2.0ns memory right? Heck, even my 2.2ns memory (which btw is rated a little slower than 2.0ns) will run at 1000 with no artifacts !

hey guys I upgraded my 4600 to 6600 GT now, at first every game runs like crap and I was wondering way, then I check my bios, my PC is 2.8 GHz with hyper threading so normaly it would show 2* 2.8GHz when I boot up, but after I install the card, it shows 2* 1.4GHz, so I quickly change it back to 2.8GHz and it fix all the problems. Im running Farcry at 1280 Max detail and full AF. No complain :) compare to when I was using my 4600, I was getting much lower frame rate in 1024 no af and in DX8 mode. And Doom 3 too. Hope taht helps

interesting. is that with the agp version 6600gt? about what is the average fps @1280x1024 with all settings high and full af? i'm considering getting a 6600gt but i'm still researching what performance is @ 1280 with those settings.

You guys who upgraded from 9700/9800 Pros, is the 6600GT much faster in HL2? Cause according to benchmarks it shouldn't be in that game.

The 6800 I bought (and returned) was not noticeably faster in HL2 than my 9700 Pro, but then I have a slow CPU (XP 2100+).

Since I like HL2 ten times better than Doom 3, I'm gonna wait for an ATI X800 XL or std.
