In an exclusive press briefing - the CEO of NVIDIA has just stated that we will see Soundstorm avaliable on nForce soon. This will be more than the old hat Soundstorm which was on nForce 1 and 2.

Way to go NVIDIA. (xmasmile)

sweet, if they are upgrading it and such, I'd be really interested to hear SoundStorm and compare it to say, a Live! 5.1 or an Audigy 2 ZS

Outstanding. I hope this is a complete hardware-based solution that will provide good quality on both the analog and digital fronts without taking up a lot of CPU cycles.

Well I guess they are seeing ppl are willing to PAY a lil bit extra for better hardware. Creative better have something good for it's new gen 3d soundcard solutions if Soundstorm is back with DICE and all.

Sounds great, but...

Dolby digital live is supported by new intel mobos, that's the good, the bad is that its not hardware acelerated meaning the cpu does all work.

Hope nvidia doesn't take that route.

BTW there are rumors it will only be on nforce5 so only intel will get it. go figure.

AFAIK creative is working on a dolby digital live card and terratec recently announced a sound card featuring dolby digital live.

Yes I am aware of that. I do a lot of news gathering myself the only questions is the DICE or Digital Live for gaming or Movies only like the A2...whic I curently own.

I dunno i just like less cables and prefer the Soundstorms abilty to use optical out on a single cable.

He did say it will be in a form that you might not expect... I think it might be an add in card instead of integrated w/ nForce as rumored in the past.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them enter the add in sound card market. I think they stand a better shot at eating away Creative's market share then VIA does.

If it's an add-in card, I expect nothing less than 24bit support and high quality DACs. Think AKM4358 24bit 192KHz 8 channel DAC.

This is what is used in the M-Audio Revolution 5.1.

Or Cirrus Logic CS4385 24bit 192KHz 8 channel DAC.

I really hope they make an add in card (that doesnt cost too much) because the Soundstorm chips are just awesome. And I really hope they fix all the bugs in their sound drivers too... for more info, see my thread about complete loss of all inputs after installing newer drivers .

damit man - recently great news on the Nvidia front.

- nForce4 SLI
- chipset agreement with Intel
- Sony PS3 deal
- Soundstorm back pretty soon
- speculation @INQ that NV44 is getting ready.

Great job. If they deliver soundstorm then i am extremly happy. They actually seem to have learned alot in the past. Nvidia is nowhere the company anymore they have been during the nv3xx series.
My guess is that their business will grow big time in the next 12 months.

Another possibility is that the SoundStorm will be coupled with the next gen. GeForce!

It's a great idea and would save me lots of money when it comes down to it.

That would be very cool if they started making "multimedia" cards, rather than graphics cards. And it would sort of explain how they were going to make PCI-E sound cards AND graphics cards: put them on the same card, so you dont need an ass load of PCI-E slots. How about SLI "multimedia cards" with 14.2 channels :D
