How is WoW for soloing? I'm primarily an 'explorer' type MMORPGer, so I typically don't do that group of 50 takes down satanic dragon thing.

There are certain classes that are better for soloing. Warlocks are the best at it. They are like Necros in EQ. Hunters and Pallys are probably next then mages and the other classes can do it but have to watch agro real close. Not sure about Shamans though. I am a 20th level Hunter and so far I have been able to stand against 3 mobs equal level. It was close though. Warlocks if you are careful can take 3 or 4 with their Voidwalker pet unless they have changed it.

I can understand you being frustrated Mustrum,
You can disbelieve me if you like. It runs well on my system for whatever the reason. I do not get hitching, stuttering or any of those things by other names. Yes, cities and lots of effects will drop FPS.
Again the worst times for me were when I first started on AB due to server latency, not my machine. Good luck getting the issue hammered out.
Look at my sig first:
I run at 1152x854
No shadows
cube map at single
complex shaders at 20
rendering distance at 300
max 4 high detail characters
no bloom
high texture resolution
as you see i have quite a lot stuff disabled.
I get between 25 and 60 FPS while running around in antonica and 10 to 20 FPS while fighting. In Blackburrow i dropped as low as 6 FPS.
It's NOT my settings since i tried out an old 9800 PRO that runs SMOOTH at the same settings in the same system.
Also reformated so it's no driver issue.
Then again there's evil stuttering even when i am in a spot with nothing around and 60 FPS.....
If it runs smooth for you you closed your eyes or are happy to fight in the sub 20 FPS area. I've not seen a 6800 owner that could show me proof of getting good FPS while fighting yet.

OMG did I just waste $50. 20 minutes of WOW and I want fall asleep.
There's absolutly no(mind you in comparison of EQ2) charcter choices, no character design(everyone looks the same) graphics pale to eq and I feel like I'm playing a disney game, interface isn't as good as EQ2. Physics where cartoonish. The only advantage my quick take is WOWs sound was much better and it's colorful.
Wow(no pun lol), did this game open my eyes for what all EQ2 is. I now know why eq to runs so bad, it's truely a next generation game graphically. I'll play on the lowest graphic setting of eq until some patchs fix the performance problem.
Thankyou blizzard.

Physics where cartoonish. The only advantage my quick take is WOWs sound was much better and it's colorful. Wow. Have you really just taken graphics into your evaluation? WoW in 20 minutes is not the real WoW. Can you please give me some screenshots of EQ2 that actually look good? I looked at all of the Gamespot ones and damn is the game boring looking. They really need to hire some good artists. Maybe Blizzard contracts out ;).
There's a reason that WoW runs so well. It's called efficiency. How many choices of characters do you have in WoW? Not overly many. How much RAM do you need to store all of that? Not much. Contrast that with many different choices. When you get past the graphics of the game, you'll be stuck with all these models, textures in RAM that is really just wasted. This sort of efficiency of resources is what Blizzard appears to have done in much of the engine, and the performance shows.
With regards to the interface in WoW, it is the only MMORPG that I've played that I haven't wanted to heavily modify the interface, where things are, etc. The only things I've changed is moving the 'combat' chat channel to the right of the normal chat one.

hehe i think that put an end to the battle in the gfx department, lol i love EQ2 it just never ceases to amaze me, and those screenies you showed arent even a good indication of what the game is like to play, theres so many great loacations, to see them when they are alive is a totally different experience.
Ive played both i currently play eq2, but i did play the open beta for WoW, soon as EQ2 came out i gave my WoW account key to a mate and never looked back. ive never played an MMORPG these were my first 2, oh and guild wars which i thought was a bit too rpg light.
Long live Eq2 !! im hooked, if they could just sort the low frames in some areas it would be the perfect game.

I'd definitely have to say WoW. The primary reason is for customer service. SOE has some of the worst CSRs ever. I've been playing SWG since it came out. I am going to move over to WoW to join other guild members as soon as I can find a copy in stock anywhere. (My hometown is retarded the sales clerk at Staples told me they were only releasing enough copies to fill the servers and that was it. *my only 2 options for buying games in town is staples or walmart)
What has impressed me most with WoW is the fact that they are being relentless in banning exploiters. I recall 2 incidents with a credit dupe in swg. The first one the CSRs were literally chasing a player around in game trying to catch up to his avatar as he dumped 500 million credits onto people he passed by. It was quite comical and sad at the same time. Those credits ruined the economy. The second time there was a credit dupe they banned innocent merchants with no re-imbursement for simply having someone buy something from their vendor using duped credits. WoW has already been avidly banning exploiters and has even given extensions for poor service. An extension for the poor service is something SOE has never done. I've seen servers down for almost an entire day because they couldn't impliment a patch properly.
So my reasons for choosing WoW are basically to contiue playing with my guild from swg and for the customer service. That is as soon as I find a copy.
Few pics of Qeynos area , not max detail , actual settings i play at :DYeah, more or less the same thing as the shots from Gamespot. Nice looking engine, high res textures, but bad art. :(

I dunno man, I got a few hours in(lvl 8) now with WOW and it's just not sucking me in. These are my first 2 MMOs though so I really don;t have nothing to campare them against. Just the 2 and IMO wow pales in comparison to EQ2 in every which way. I guess they just cater to 2 completly different crowds.

One half of people will like EQ2 other half will like WoW , why all this fighting who is better they both two different games (xmastong) and great in its own way.
One is world of "Warcraft" made from cool game WarCraft as we all know Orcs vs Humans :D other is Story of Norrath EQ series, they look as they suppose to they can't look different , even though they both MMO they should not be compared , magazine reviewers are wrong and very bias.

Bare with me if this is a complete mess but been busy with work and I only have a few to answer you. :)
With wow I just feel like I'm playing a cartoonie platformer. From the artstyle to the physics of the game. There's a fraction of the selection of classes. No diversity in classes, everyone looks the same throughout your world. You go in to a armor shop, 3 merchants working and they all look like identical triplets which look exactly like me. Armor and outfits are bland. Dated technical graphics(hense the reason it runs so smooth). The animation is horrible IMO. The way the characters walk, jump, battle is just to cheesy. Just not my style. IMO the ticket to the atmoshere of this game is the music. Very well done.
EQ2 is detail, it's like the simulator of MMOs. From the minute you start the game you can see the depth of it. Character classes are many to choose from and character creation is the deepest of any game. You'll be hard pressed to find another player looking exactly like you or a npc for that matter. Some(99% those who haven't played) say eq2 has no atmosphere, I'd have to disagree. All be it not super colorful(only thing wow got going for it), it's is extremly rich with detail and very alive(even at medium settings which i play). Leaves falling from trees, schools of fish, cats chasing mice in the cities, dogs chasing cats, heards of deers, mobs running through towns and npc fighting them off, flocks of butterflies, flora that interacts with you be moving out of the way when you run through it, moving skys and plenty more. Then on top of the livelyness it's super detailed. Beautiful textures that bring the game alive. Stone that creates the castles look like real stone, bark on the trees is beautfully done, ever changing stone pathways, beautful in game lighting, armour that look like armor. Spell effects are amazing and absoluty gorgous when casted, characters have facial expressions that change with mood and battleing, Music and sounds that complemnet the mood well etc, etc, etc, . Then there's the depth argument, again playing both eq2 when this department, there's just so much more with the amount of abilities of skills, different crafting systems and the way you go about crafting, grouping stragities, etc. You're not going to get the appreciation out of a picture you saw on the net, not only do the picture of eq loose tremendous amount of iq, you have to see the game in motion to really appreciate it.
btw, both of these games are my first 2 MMOs so I'm not a fanboy of either. I wanted to play both early on knowing that with this type of game you may end up playing it for years. So I wanted to make sure I played the right one before getting to involved and wishing I had played the other.
I'll be cancelling wow once my free month is up in the game. I just find myself enjoying eq2 much, much more.

Here are some of my EQ2 Shots... Very High Settings... EQ2 probably has one of the biggest zones I have ever seen, The commonland is HUGE. Im talking about it can fit 100 people easily and yet you can be there for an hour without seeing anyone else...
anyone here play on the Toxxulia server.
Send me a tell to one of my characters: Scarumanga and Acidia
I followed a IGN performance guide and its got my useing AF 4x in eq2 and somehow i gained 4-5fps, seriously.
I Followed the mid-range guide. Its located here if u wanna check it out for yourself: http://eq2vault.ign.com/View.php?view=columns.Detail&category_select_id=9&id=208
Also how much do the 66.81 drivers improve eq2? I have them downloaded but im unsure as to whether i should try them out or not.

Thanks for WoW better pics , what i found on Official website and some magazine reviews suck , they can't take quality in game pics , WoW looks just like Warcraft same artstyle pretty cool , good action game im sure.
Aye EQ2 is build for the future thats why you can't have group battles with those high details everything is bumbmaped with shadows and dynamic lights. Texture realy high res ect. Once you doing major raids no more good graphics system can't handle it :p .
Anyway to each its own. Neither game is bad IMHO.

I play just fine at Very High settings in raids and groups...
Bare with me if this is a complete mess but been busy with work and I only have a few to answer you. :)
...
Armor and outfits are bland.Damn, man. Have you seen any of the armor in the game? The higher level you go, the more impressive the armor looks. There was a level 60 Dwarf Warrior wandering about Iron Forge the other day, and ******* that's the best looking player character I've seen in any game, especially a MMORPG. Dated technical graphics(hense the reason it runs so smooth). It's a new engine for WoW. It's not dated. :)The animation is horrible IMO. The way the characters walk, jump, battle is just to cheesy. Just not my style. IMO the ticket to the atmoshere of this game is the music. Very well done. There's music in WoW? Again, animations are another thing that Blizzard have done better than any other MMORPG that I've seen. It all just oozes with style.EQ2 is detail, it's like the simulator of MMOs. From the minute you start the game you can see the depth of it. Character classes are many to choose from and character creation is the deepest of any game. You'll be hard pressed to find another player looking exactly like you or a npc for that matter.I suppose this is part of your MMORPG newbieness showing, but why does this matter? When you've got a really good group going through an instance where your group is only just able to do it and you're having an incredible time because the game mechanics, (the part that matters in this sort of game) these sort of things become very quickly irrelevant. Some(99% those who haven't played) say eq2 has no atmosphere, I'd have to disagree. All be it not super colorful(only thing wow got going for it), it's is extremly rich with detail and very alive(even at medium settings which i play). Leaves falling from trees, schools of fish, cats chasing mice in the cities, dogs chasing cats, heards of deers, mobs running through towns and npc fighting them off, flocks of butterflies, flora that interacts with you be moving out of the way when you run through it, moving skys and plenty more.Except for the flora interacting with the player, this is all in WoW, too (xmasmile). This is all good stuff, but my choice of MMORPG wouldn't hinge on any of this, and perhaps at the moment it would put me off of it. My system isn't awfully quick, (Athlon XP 2800+, 5900XT, 512MB RAM) and I fear that I would be able to hear little sobs coming from that beige case to my left. Then there's the depth argument, again playing both eq2 when this department, there's just so much more with the amount of abilities of skills, different crafting systems and the way you go about crafting, grouping stragities, etc. :( This is the part that I was hoping you could write your post on, and it was squashed into one sentence...
btw, both of these games are my first 2 MMOs so I'm not a fanboy of either.Alright. It sounds like you're a graphics fanboy thought (not that there's anything wrong with that, I just feel it's not exactly important for this sort of game. Have a look at Ultima Online).
Speaking of WoW. I'm going back to it for more. I'm a level 31 Priest at the moment. Loving the game more and more all the time, and not because of the graphics. :)
Aye EQ2 is build for the futureI would say that WoW is built for the future, given that I play games for the quality of the gameplay, not the graphics. Blizzard have created a really (really) solid base game with which to expand upon. I'm really excited to see what they do with it.
All hail Blizzard, for they can do no wrong! (xmasgrin)
