View Full Version : World of Warcraff or EverQuest 2
I have learned not to argue with Blizzard fans since they all for some reason think everything they release is instant gold...I hold such a high opinion of Blizzard because they really haven't released one bad game. :)

IMO if you want the best quality/people players and are actually interested in the enviroment. Play on a RP preferred server. Both Sony/Blizzard have them. Been playing on a RP preferred server for WoW and I am very very impressed with the quality of people.
People. Please settle down in this thread. Just because you dont agree. Theres no reason for hostility. I love both games. Though leaning towards WoW because thats where my friends are headed.

I just played and cancelled EQ2. After playing wow you realize what a finished game is, EQ2 isn't. Not to mention todays patch and the little chrismas theme bonus in wow. You realize that the devs are in to the game just as much as their customers. I have 3 months(well 4 including free month) paid and I'll see where the game will go. See where SOE goes also in support.
Chrisray, I see the purple RolePlaying people running around eq2 all the time, whats that about? Why does it differ, how does it?

I'm getting WOW because a load of my friends are getting it, I love that kind of gameplay and I won't have to spend 27 hours a day trying to level my char.

Go play Horizons...
Well WOW is bugged for me as it is hundreds of people right now. Blizzard is offering zero support on the issue right now because they are too worried adding snowballs and Xmas lights to the realms. If you buy WoW there is a possibilty it
-wont install -it took people actually having to find the open beta to get the game, because their installer wont work for them off the included CDs. This happened to me and it is EXTREMELY annoying. I did take the game back and the second set didnt work either.
-constant 131-132 errors -when WoW gets any type of tiny error the game crashes to desktop. I get regular crashes about every 5-10 minutes.
The game runs fine for most people, but if you arent one of them expect NO help from Blizzard on the matter, simply because they already have your money.

It doesnt mean anything really. supposively a flag that denotes RP. But it really makes nary a difference..

Using the RP flag does nothing more then tell other players that you prefer to roleplay (or are roleplaying) so they don't freak out when you start talking weird. RP servers try to enforce RP...

I was getting pretty frusterated at an issue I was having with WoW myself. I was sure it was a game bug, I found out later it was because My processor was not getting enough voltage. WoW is a pretty solid prduct I think alot of people that are having problems are having hardware related issues that they don't know about. Im sure many of them are real problems though.

Come on people, calm down. Just agree to disagree and agree that you all like different games. This banter is pointless.

No, what i meant was with the attacking/defending argument that seems to have gripped this topic. A nice discussion is good, but this is a tad out of hand
Ah, I believe the 'banter' word put me off. Banter isn't a bad thing :)
Guess this settles it :)

Not really since the single reviewer could be bias. I mean EQ1 never got any awards but it is claimed to be one of the greatest MMORPGs of its time...
It's all about personal opinion, I can't stand WoW. I do not find it immersive and everything seems way to easy. I just like the "true" fantasy look of EQ.
(By true I mean closer to the D&D/LOTR stuff.)
Did you read what it said egbtmagus?
Edit: "World of Warcraft is derivative of some previous online role-playing games, especially EverQuest, which earned our PC Game of the Year Award in 1999." From the link you talked about...

Eh so it did earn an award. /shrug
No I don't read End of the Year awards or watch any type of award shows (oscars or whatever). Most awards are bought...

Just curious, how long did you play the game? Unless you're one of those masochistic MMORPG players who like 10-hour xp grinds to gain a single level, WoW isn't just a walk in the park once you get past the noob zones.
"True fantasy" best describes my view of World of Warcraft through its creative art design and excellent, extremely deep back story. There are several plot threads within the game itself as well which unfold over time, and players take an integral role in them which, to me, is very immersive. I don't know much about the story behind Everquest 2 so I can't really comment, but as far as art direction goes I find it hard to believe that anyone would prefer EQ2 over WoW.
It sounds to me like you had your mind made up before you ever played the game, just like everyone who refused to play Zelda: WW because of the cel-shaded graphics. Not that WW didn't suck, it did, but not because of the graphics. :D

I played the game at the beginning of closed beta for about a month maybe alittle more. WoW has the warcraft story and in that its all great but I find EQ2's background alot richer. I played EQ1 for 4+ years and being able to make the connection is awsome, not only that like WoW, there is so much background in EQ2 some people just cant grasp it. Just sit there and talk to the Iksar in thier district, they will go on and on about thier past and how much they hate other races. Heck some races wont even speak to me because of the race I am... they just make insults. :(

WoW just happens to be where my friends have moved. So I am sticking it out there. Both are enjoyable games though. Seems I am enjoying WoW slightly more though.
Guess I just like the warcraft universe?

Yes they are both enjoyable. Wish I had time for both but being the nature of these games and the time dedication to play them, that's not going to happen.

I buy both games on the first day of their release. I have 2 characters in EQ2 and both are in early 20 lvls and one chatacter in WoW also at ealry 20 lvl. Obviously I've spent more time in EQ2 than WoW but that's because EQ2 released earlier than WoW. actaully i've spent about the same amount of time playing both after the release of WoW, and that was done purposely because I want to get a hold of both games and see which one really attracts me. After a month of play time I must say EQ2 is the game for me.
Someone says the graphics of a game is not important because we'll see pass that very soon and gameplay is the most important thing. I sorta agree with that. Becasue gameplay is what really we are playing, not grapgics. However, if I don't like the graphics, it's very hard for me to enjoy the gameplay. ANd I want to point out one important point: if a game has good graphics, but bad gameplay, would you still play it? I know I wouldn't. EQ2 has good graphics (and remember, good artwork is purely subjective) AND good gameplay. I admit there is some flaw in it atm but so does WoW and not to forget the game is only in its seconf month.
So please stop saying that EQ2 has only good graphics but no gameplay (or even bad graphics and bad gameplay) because ask anyone you want to and see if they'll play a game with bad gameplay or/and bad graphics; I'm sure the answer is NO. If you think it's bad, then that's fine it's your opinion.
