6800GT PCI-E's are on sale! UK -> scan.co.uk, overclockers.co.uk, and I presume newegg etc. have them in if you are in the US!

Are you joking? Pricewatch lists one site selling 6800gt pci-e cards (markonecomputers) and it is out of stock. Tell me if I'm searching the wrong sight.

Very tough...

Maybe a ATi x800pro that can be modded to XT-PE is the way to go.

They've been out of stock at Monarch for about a month.
I've been watching them.

The only places I've seen 6800GT PCIe in stock are in the UK and on Ebay, unless you want to pay $600 for one.

If I were you I'd put in a preorder at Monarch since thats about the best price I've seen so far, and Evga is a good brand. Availability is the problem though.
Thankfully I don't need mine right now...hopefully this clears up in a month but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Monarch lists in stock date as Dec 29th

Yeah it says ETA the 29th, so they will probably get some cards which are already sold to preorder customers.
I guess I should be more optimistic but this is pretty bad.

I have throughly searched for the last week. No one that I could find has a GT or Ultra pci-e in stock! I think I found a plain 6800, if you like I could try to "re-find" it.

The 6600GT is basically the same speed as a 6800 vanilla because of the higher clocks.
In addition the video processor is not broken, and its less expensive.

WRONG !!!
6800NU is faster than 6600GT even when the 6600 is overclocked...
Check it out (http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_6600_gt_overclocked/)

Where are they not basically the same speed?
Its not worth $100-150 more for 5fps (when you're already getting 50-70fps)

Also we're talking about PCI express cards in this case, where the price difference will be $150 unfortunately, at least at the present. Until the market is fixed the high end PCIe cards are going to be rediculous in price.

Anand has a page specifically about these two cards and HL2.
