Looking to start discussion on the nforce 3 chipset for this motherboard under Linux using Fedora Core 3.

To start off, I am experiencing boot up problems with grub with IDE RAID for SATA turned on. Kenrel will load if this feature is turned off in the kernel. It seems to be pointing to the sata_nv using the 2.6.9 kernel. Do I need to recompile the kernel in order to get this work? Need guidance.

You cannot use this feature in linux. Nvidias RAID is not a true hardware RAID. If you need RAID use the linux software RAID that is in the kernel.
If what you intend to do is RAID 0, dont bother it is only faster in benchmarks, in real world it has proven to be no advantage.

I am no expert but I would disagree that nvidia's raid is not hardware. It is in every sence even though it is not the best one available (far from being even a mid range). His problem does not come from the hardware but most likelly from bad configs. The configurations on the nvidia raids are done in the mobo bios and there are about a thousand things that can go wrong with a raid system so I would suggest that you either find someone with access to your computer to help you, read lots of documentation on using raid systems in linux (or even in general), or just give up on using raid. Like it was pointed out you are not going to gain enough performance increase on a desktop in order to be worth all the trouble to set it up.
