View Full Version : Kuwaitis Get Apology From Palestinians
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas apologized to Kuwaitis on Sunday for Palestinian support of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) during the 1990-91 Gulf War (news - web sites), his latest gesture to mend fences with Arab nations offended by the late Yasser Arafat (news - web sites) over the years.

Abbas showing what he could have done had he had more support to counter arafat's influence within the political scene...
rebuilding relations diplomatically while taking responsibility == a good idea... if he gets elected, sharon seems to be inclined towards working for a positive resolution that satisfies both parties... well more inclined than he was to deal with arafat at least

Unlike Arafat, Abbas isn't a terrorist. Does wonders when your leader dies and gets replaced by someone who isn't a terrorist.

QFT. If Abbas works out like this, then it's going to go a long way towards getting Palestinians their own state. I think there can be at least a somewhat peaceful resolution to all this.

Cross every appendage you have and hug your four leaved clover because we're not out of the woods yet. That said I think there are good odds of us ending up in a situation like northern ireland is in right now. Bickering sides who have a common goal, but have ended the violence and are playing politics rather than with lives. (Although that guy from the DUP ANNOYS me... "No No NO NO No No NO!"...
abbas has not just dropped out of the sky...
he should have been given far more support when he was appointed PM before but apparently that was not deemed important enough for consideration... he was given a leg to stand on and then no legitimacy...
he is showing now what he could have been doing all along and everyone will likely reap the benefits of this...

Arafat was totally undermining Abbas when he was desperately trying to keep dialogue with Israel. The Fatah movement remained under Arafat's firm grip and they kept attacking Abbas. It was really sad. If it weren't for Arafat, Abbas would have gone way farther.

Big whoop! There will never be peace there. A peace agreement will be struck but it will fall apart and all hell will break lose. Glad I wont be here to see it.

Apparently so. I just read on MSNBC that Abbas has called for an end to the intifada! I don't know much about the guy, but this is certainly a good start. Instead of spewing the usual "push the Jews into the sea" bull**** just to get elected, he's actually speaking the truth: if we want our own country, the uprising must end.
Finally, some hope.
