View Full Version : barton with 400Mhz FSB!!
from front page.
We just received confirmation (although AMD won't announce it until much later) that Barton will be shipping with a 400MHz FSB and the performance boost from the new FSB is pretty healthy. On current processors the use of a 400MHz FSB will improve performance anywhere from 0 - 15% on the nForce2 platform, obviously depending on the benchmark.
yeah!! Now there becomes a very good reason to get DDR400 memory for my new nforce2 board!! IIRC DDR400 on a 333 FSB doesn't give much advantage over DDR333. Having the FSB and memory in sync at 400Mhz like nvidia suggested should be awesome!
sweeeeeet!

Why would you run the Nforce2 at default settings anyway? I would take current AMD XP and try to get it at 200 in sync with DDR 400...

Yeah. I wouldnt care if barton debut with a 100mhz fsb. I'd run it at 400 in my nforce board, just like with my Tbird 1400 now :)

ddr 400 on 333 fsb with nforce gives NEGATIVE advantage...
in my benchmarks ive found 400fsb/333mem to be noticibly slower then 266/266 for gaming. as well as 266/333 etc.
always run in SYNC ;)
anyways you dont need a new cpu to run 400/400 sync. Just unlock your current cpu.
i'm running 380/380 now only because my memory doesnt like 400 and running 390 forces me to bump the CPU multiplier down .5
The board is stable at 422FSB (max setting in bios)... cant wait to get some new memory so i can run in sync with that ;)

i doubt you would be able to overclock it that much if it came at 100MHz :D

Sure you would... with the multiplier unlocked.

how many chips let you overclock the FSB by 300MHz and remain stable though. that's quite the hefty increase.
well whatever... its still nice to have a chip with a 400mhz fsb already.
Yeah and the P4 gets a 800MHz FSB ouch man thats as fast as my curret Duron @ defualt speed!!! Oh well i just orded me a XP 2100+ :)

I've often wondered about this - if, for (a ridiculous) example, I had a 600Mhz FSB on my KT7A, with a multiplier of 2, would my unlocked T-Bird 1200 know any different? A silly example I know, but you get my drift...
Processor probably wouldn't. But for sake of argument, on that mobo. Similar to mine, AGP and PCI speeds are based off the fsb. So they would probably fail.
