:D

TO gain some extra attention, you can check in the other thread what was the initial round of events.

However the advice that I need now is regarding BIOS flashing.

I can load HDD.. and I have downloaded the latest bios... it is on there.. and can boot into dos now, so things are going to the better. Still floppy still fails, but I can flash from HDD.

The problem that I have is that annoying splash screen at the beginning of the boot.

The splash screen still displays Leadtek information on my Epox BIOS despite me flashing the bios succesfully twice .

The second time I used the parameters /py /sn /cd /cp /cc
that rewrote pretty much everything they could, but the LEADTEK SPLASH SCREEN FOR FIRST 1-2 SEC STAYED!

Does anyone know how to get rid of the initial splash screen in BIOS, anyone done any BIOS programming here :D... probably not, but just to ask ;)

How it looks is still that there is Leadtek splash screen for 1-2 sec, and than Epox one for .5 sec, and than the new Epox bios loads. The effect is still the same. I tried to load win 2000 on teh HDD and ACPI Bios incompatible error appeared. So my system is half-bust still.

* When I flashed the second time the last 4 memory spaces were left as they were not overwritten, and I assume that this splash screen peace resides in there. is there a way to wipe out all the ROM memory while flashing the chip? What it does is overwrite first xxx spaces/ as much as it needs, and than it stops and asks for reboot. that splashg screen stays it seems, I assume it resides in those last four memory sectors on the Bios chip.

Any ideas?

:D

just on another forum - very simple solution to my bios splash screen...

I have a Leadtek gfx card, and that is the splash screen from it :D

Well, I guess the bios dates were accidentaly the same on mobo and the gfx (or maybe because it is twinforce they had it published on same dates)... nevermind, so the splash screen theory is surely not true ( ah at least somehting)... still me failing to setup the weird monster of the PC is a bit of a mystery, and that ACPI not compatible failures during Win 2000 setup.

but the good point is if I sort this Epox mystery out, than I should be able to recover the Nforce without returning it... and that is a nice thought... one more PC--- who would have thought of that :D... I have two of most components anyway apart from monitor, and perhaps I can plug it into the TV... huh... who knows... a nice thought, just have to get the epox sorted first for the beginning.

but still if anyone interested...

worked this one out last night :D

well a couple of things

well it was my HDD after allllll

and what was it?

two things.

1. the IDE cable that I put it on was either meant to be for CD drives only, or old or corrupted... but what made me think so was that in the screen before Verifying DMI pool data the hardware specs are shown, and my HDD appeared as ATA 33. I thought that was it, changed the cable, (as I have a couple collected over time) and voila the drive showed Ata 100, I think this might have been responsible for corruption during setup (for those times when I got trough that BIOS crash by pressing F7, but file copies failed during setup), however I still had that ACPI BIOS crash during the next win 2000 setup... dissapointment :( I thought what next:

And the next point was:

2. HDD jumper

How, why and what, I am not so sure yet, but probably configuring my Leadtek system a few months ago, (having 2HD's ) I have setup this drive as a master. I never doubted it, and it showed up in the system as master... all the time, however, being desperate, I checked that jumper and it was connecting the pins that were not specified as master or slave, but "other two" - first two to the power socket on WD 80 GB HDD, whatever this setting means. And I reset the thing to master... and whooo... happiness, run Win 2000 setup again... and it had gone trough 100%, no BIOS ACPI error, no setup crashes... it says to me reset the PC... and than what?

Shock horror again, Verifying DMI Pool data...
...error encountered.

And I thought DAMN...but still there was hope that my HDD was causing this, as when unplugging all other devices it made no difference, so I have put another HDD on the system, and system tried to boot :), went to select win 2K screen... but crashed after, but that is system incompatibility with that Win 2K setup on that HD :D.

So ... I knew it was still my HDD causing this, but I could run setup now, I have rerun it, but than ordered Win2K setup to format the HDD once again, and huh...

After setup formated, it installed the files flawleslly, and when rebooting the system, it actually booted :D setup finished, and all this ordeal is now over.

Huh... I am kind of paranoid now not to see some BSOD, but there was none yet, and it was still working this morning, so hopefully all that is over.

Good thing #2... Leadtek board must be good to :D... and how did win2K install in the first place without errors is kind of still puzzling, but surely that jumper on my HDD seems to have been the cause of the ACPI Bios problem on this EPOX setup, and that makes sense, as only the Gfx card, memory and the HDD were taken from Leadtek over to the Epox, and the most likely cause for the same BSOD is from one of these components.

Perhaps Leadtek BIOS could ignore or understasnd that setting as master, until I did not try to install APIC on the sytem, and that shook the whole setup... still good, it is finally over. I hope :D.
