I want to buy a 6600GT card, but my mainboard has only 4AGP (MSI KM2M).
Will the card work anyway?

Yup, Any 8xAGP card is backwards compatible to 4xAGP.

One more question:

What will be the impact on the quality, if I use a 4 AGP mainboard for a 8 AGP card? Will it be much slower?

The difference is so small it won't be noticeable.

It won't be noticeable. The only reason that you wouldn't want to do this is your system's age. If you only have 4X AGP, that means your mainboard must be at least two or more years old, so based upon the rest of the system, you might not get the most out of it.
