View Full Version : XP chip, how much more life in it?

Does anyone know how much further they're going with the XP chip? I plan on making a motherboard/cpu/memory upgrade around Christmas. I want to be able to get plenty of use out of the motherboard (leadtek nforce2), but it sounds like I'll have to trash it once the new AMD chips come out. So anyway, back to my original question how much further are they going with the XP chip? 2.8 GHz? 3GHz? 3.5 GHz?

Probably up to 3.5 with Barton or so.
Then we get Hammers. :D

Sounds good! Thanks. :)

at least another 6 months i'd say, Bartons will be carrying them in the consumer sector for a while before Hammer shows up.

Cool thx, was wondering same thing, btw is Barton Nforce2 compatible?

Yes, nForce2 is Barton/400Mhz FSB compatible, and supposedly it gets a BIG jump. :D

Aren't all of the Nforce boards right now only supporting 333 FSB though? I noticed that they support 400DDR RAM but not a 400 FSB. I'm guessing the Nforce boards later on will start coming standard with 400 FSB?
They unofficaly support 400MHz FSB infact the nForce 2 can't handle much more then that but few boards can anyway.

So it's a matter of luck, you might ghet 1 that "unofficaly" supports and the other that cant really handle that much. :p
