Hi everyone, and Merry Christmas!

I have few questions that maybe some of you could answer for me.

I have an MSI Board with the SIS 645 Ultra chipset.
Specs have it *only* capable of 400MHZ FSB.
However, it does have support for PC2700 (333DDR @166MHz)
Now I currently use a Northwood 2.0GHz/400MHz FSB @ 125FSBx20Multiplier for 2.5 GHz.

BUT
I can get a Northwood that is 2.4 but it was @ 533MHz FSB. It multiplier is locked at 18.

I was thinking of putting that CPU in and using 166MHz FSB X 18 Multiplier for an O/C of almost 3.0 Ghz.

Considering my board has support for DDR 333 this should work right?

Thanks,

Test,

It all depends if your CPU and RAM are up to the task. Theoretically, you are correct.

So,

Since the memory is rated @166 Native, my PC2700 should not be a problem as far as FSB is concerned @ 166.

What your saying is that the CPU 2.4/533FSB may have trouble with 166 BUT anything over 18x133-18x166 would be a satisfactory O/C.

So even if I only reach lets say, 145FSBx18 for 2.6 it would still be worth it to swap....

Thanks for replying saturnotaku,
Much appreciated!

That's a decision you're going to have to make on your own. If you believe something less than 166 would be a satisfactory overclock, then by all means you're entitled to that opinion.

Just because a board supports DDR333, it doesn't mean it can run a 166MHz FSB. My guess is that it wont work with DDR333 in a 1:1 scenerio so I don't think what you are wanting will work unless you overclock the FSB.
