View Full Version : Which 6600GT AGP and why?
If I get enough Newegg gift certifcates this Christmas and I can fetch enough for my FX5900XT on ebay, I'm seriously considering the 6600GT AGP. I've narrowed it down two three because I like their HSF setups the best and they're affordable. Of these which would you choose, or do you have something else you prefer. I don't know much about any of these brands either so any input would be appreciated. And yes money is a concern, so please no 6800GT suggestions!

XFX is the only manufacturer to clock there AGP 6600GT's at 500/1000!!!
same as the PCIe version - so in my books thats the only choice as all others are clocked at 500/900.

I take that back - both Gainwood and Galaxy are running at 500+ on the core and 1025Mhz+ on the memory using 1.6ns chips.
So its either XFX, Gainwood or Galaxy.

XFX all the way!
That's an easy decision - like Superfly said, the XFX cards are clocked at 500Mhz core / 1Ghz memory (GDDR3). I currently have mine running at 550/1100 with no problem at all.

huh??? Guys all the cards I listed have 500/1000. Check out newegg.com and gameve.com
Mhz aside I don't like the XFX hsf setup, and I've read threads on here that it overheats. Finally the XFX is priced higher than the other cards I listed, it's as much as a 6800LE so I don't see the pointing in buying that.

haha. thats really dang funny.
I would either get the XFX one or the Gainward GLH model which is not out yet. GLH stands for "Goes Like Hell" and these are the only 2 6600GT cards that have 1.6ns memory as far as I know.
The Albatron and others use 2.0ns memory, and I read that the Albatron and Apollo cards have fans that have a very loud high pitched sound.
You may want to read this thread here:

Its 50 pages long of nothing but posts about the 6600GT agp. Its from an Austrailian website but they get same video cards we get here. Very interesting reading.
Here is pic on the Gainward GS GLH:

Click the top news link where it says "It simply "Goes Like Hell™""
If I was getting a 6600GT AGP, I would make sure it was one with 1.6ns memory. I may still get somekind of 6800, but if I get a 6600GT Im 90% sure it would be the Gainward GLH one (snowcool)
I'm waiting for the Gainward card myself. I also need something with Dual-DVI, which the Gainward also has. Seems to be a realy nice card. If they're super expensive or hard to find, I may just end up with the XFX card as it also has dual-DVI.

It kinda pisses me off that the 6600GT has higher speed memory than my 6800GT (1.6ns vs. 2.0ns) considering the fact that I payed $200 more for it.

Don't feel bad, the 6800 has 256bit memory bus while the 6600GT has 128bit memory bus. Therefore the 6600GT has to have faster clocks in order to compensate. ATI did the same thing, the ATI 9600XT has faster mem and core speeds than the R9800Pro but the R9800Pro is obviously better.
My vote is for the MSI one, it's the quietest one, if that floats your boat.

I vote for this one :D

Damn that thing is so sexy.
Bye bye XGI.

Well that's the most expensive one though because it comes with Vivo. I'd have to think about that... I mean if nothing else I could get rid of the Hauppauge WinTV card I suppose and just use that then. I'll think about it.
EDIT: Holy crap! I'm not touching that frigin card!!!

BAD REVIEWS!!!
MSI makes great mobo's and video cards. Maybe they had some quality control problems with properly fitting the heatsink on the first cards. Im sure they will fix it and stand behind their product.
AS much as I like MSI, I still wouldnt get that card because it has 2.0ns memory. I think if you get a 6600GT it should be one with the 1.6ns memory.

I vote for the BFG, the cooler isnt ****eyed and its overclocked out of the box.
http://www.chumbo.com/Info.aspx?id=239864
Price is 249$ witch isnt much considering you get free 2nd day, most ohter places will only beat it by a few bucks after you pay shipping. and the best part is the clocks!
# Core Clock 525MHz
# Memory Clock 1050MHz (effective)
Probably would have to ask BFG, but I'll bet that comes with 1.6ns memory. Unfortunately I cant find anything in writing that confirms this. It does look like it uses a great fan/heatsink setup (xmasmile)

I got the Gainward 6600GT GLH I ordered,
That's work properly for my PC...I'm enjoying it...
Suggest you can be considerate....
id go with the BFG for their warranty and the copper in the cooler. My 6800GT doesnt use 1.6ns memory and i still do just fine so as long as it runs at 500mhz and not 450mhz id go with the BFG.
Albatron loox good, but i donno its specs.
I'd say Gainward GLH, because of the 1.6ns ram and HSF, also if u a looking for a cheeeper card then Inoovision inno3d 6600Gt is good, Copper hsf and 1.6ns ram ddr3.
MSI 66GT LOOX THE best Of all. (DONT GET MSI)
Ille have to say eVGA. They make great cards. I got my eVGA 6800nu installed it and runs perfectly fine. Havent had any anomolies with the card.
