Yeah, as sad as it is to admit, without buying ArtX, ATI probably would of never one-upped Nvidia. Hopefully the next generation is a bit better, but with this generation they've allowed Nvidia to catch up on everything the R300 bested them in. You know something went wrong when ATI fanboys went from "The R300 is way more futureproof than the stupid NV30, that's why its better" to "Who cares if the NV40 has PS3.0 and more features, nobody needs them right now"

from a hardware perspective... ati used to be pretty good... generally neck and neck with nvidia in many respects..

they still are for the most part but nvidia has seemingly taken the lead when it comes to raw features from the nv3x cards onwards...

their shader performance may have been lower but the feature-set was brilliant and continues to be excellent...

No it's whomever is Microsoft's bitch will be the dominating force. Back in the good old Geforce 4 days. Nothing could touch the Geforce 4 Ti 4200. But then Nvidia was microsoft's bitch, they had the backing of the entire PC market behind them. Then after microsoft pissed Nvidia off when they tried to monopolize the XBox hardware even when Nvidia helped them make it. Now ATI is Microsoft's bitch. They worked very closely with microsoft and the development of direct X 9, just as Nvidia did with Direct X 8. It's no wonder Nvidia is faster with DX 8, and ATI is faster with DX 9.

Direct X 9.0c was a chance to turn the tides again. But the problem is not because game developers don't want to use PS3.0, it probably because microsoft probably don't give much resources to fully develop ps3.0. ATI chose not to support it, because they knew first hand that not many game would use it, and if it was it would not make a difference.

ATI has nothing to fear right now that is why they can release all these cards. They belong to bill's evil empire.

I kind of agree with this. The ti 4 series was decent-but lacked ps 1.4 which ati did have. Alot like today how nvidia has sm3.0 and ati has 2.0. It does seem whoever is in bed with m$ gets ahead. Could be a coincedence or it could be cuz billy sayz so....either way tho...m$ cant help ati make money if ati cant supply demand.
