Nvidia says the new audio drivers will not install on my asus board or the chaintech board. I was wondering why my audio driver version was the same after I updated...

Anyone know why we cant update the audio driver on ASUS/chaintech boards? what will happen if i manually update it.

thanks

I have just installed the new nforce drives after a clean install of XP fully patched. And there appears to be a problem with installing the audio part of the drivers, they simply do not work...
I have an nforce 2 board Asus A7N8X the previous drivers worked with no troubles. Any one else experiencing problems with these drivers ?

I might be wrong, but I believe the Chaintech and the Asus board only use the MCP chip...not the MCP-T chip that has the integrated NVIDIA APU (Dolby Digital sound).

As such, you'll be looking to upgrade the drivers for your audio chipset from CMI ( likely the CMI 8738 HRTF audio controller ).

Well if you guys would spare some time to read NOTE i laff at you guys :D

Audio drivers will not install on the following nForce2 products: ASUS A7N8X and Chaintech 7NJS. Please use the drivers that come with these products to enable audio functionality.

The Chaintech, for some reason unknown to mortal men, uses a cmedia chip and does not even have the code in the BIOS to enable the APU. The Asus board doesn't have the dd5.1 stuff, except for the Deluxe version, which it works fine with.

Hey hold on...I was wrong
ASUS wanted customized audio settings for their boards, so they have a different device ID than the standard MCP2-T does. Because of this the generic drivers will not load.

The drivers CAN be forced to work, however, the custom settings that ASUS provides will be gone afterward. In the future we'll try to add generic support in for ASUS, though the custom features will go away each time. If the customer wants them they'll have to get drivers from ASUS.

also..

Chaintech chose C-Media over using the MCP-T/APU for reasons that they can explain. Thus NVIDIA will never be able to support audio on those boards.

And since someone will probably ask, there is no way to turn on the APU on those boards... Chaintech has it written out of the BIOS, so the resources never get allocated to the APU.

No folks, it pertains to the A7N8X DELUXE as well. I have a delux, and the audio drivers do NOT install when i install the new 2.0 set. It simply doesnt update them.

Update well I installed the updated drivers, and the only difference noted was when playing the sswav04 and 06 under Environment in the nvidia control panel, I could no longer hear the center channel or rear speakers test (I only have 2 speakers - and before it would try to simulate the other speakers.)

as a side note, it turns out the nforce2 audio SUCKS with 2 speakers. when I enable hardware audio in ut2k3 sounds that are coming from directly in front of me are very quiet, and even quieter (nearly to the point where you cant hear them) when a sound comes from behind you. But when the sound comes from the right/left side - it sounds normal. It's as if the games trying to send the audio to the center/surround speakers when they're not there, and not 'simulating' them like they do in the audio control panel test. And yes I have '2 speakers' selected in speaker setup. I also tried this with both the old(from asus)/new(from nvidia) drivers, same thing.

*sigh* software audio for me

Hi

I installed these drivers last night, but my problem is with the IDE drivers (the nVidia SW IDE drivers which it asks if you want to install).
Why after installing them, in my device manager, I lose my primary/secondary IDE channels, and my HD and Combo drive show up as SCSI drives?
I've got the A7N8X deluxe, running XP Pro.

I lost my primary/secondary ide channels - but I dont think thats a *problem*. Do they NEED To show up? ALthough My IDE drives stayed under 'disk drives'.

NV is having some installer issues this run...I expect they'll make an updated pack later

I emailed nVidia about this - they are aware of the issue and working on fixing it.
