Just curious, but whats the deal with DVDs marked "Region 2"? Theres a movie im trying to find ("Split Second" with Rutger Hauer) and its really rare, so all I can find are the Region 2 DVDs on Ebay. They are for the UK, Europe and Asia but is there any way they can play on my DVD drive or on DVD players at my house or my girlfriend's house?

The movie is nearly impossible to find on DVD, especially outside of the UK. Ive only seen one non-region 2 and it was going for $60 (way too much for me).

What are my options?

get anydvd or dvdgenie, they make your dvd region free.

Some hacked firmwares also remove region protection. If you want to play them on your TV, you need a region free DVD player. They exist, but they're all imported from Japan AFAIK.

Yes... you can get some software that will make your DVD player region free... but I hear they don't work on newer DVD rom drives (not sure though). It works fine on mine but it might not work on yours. What kind of DVD player you got (not your DVD rom drive... but your actual DVD player hooked to your TV)? I will try to find out if there is a way to make your player region free.

Well if it's R2 then the DVD can either be NTSC or PAL. If the DVD is from the UK then it's PAL and the Captn won't be able to play it on his NTSC TV unless the DVD player can perform a PAL->NTSC conversion.

I feel retarded for posting another reply after mine :retard: but I forgot to mention this site (http://tdb.rpc1.org/) that hacks firmware for PC DVD drives.

Thing is, he hasn't specifically stated where he intends to watch this movie. If he's going to watch it on a set-top DVD player then he's going to have a few more steps to get it working than if he was going to watch it on his PC.

Well I mentioned Id like to play it on my DVD drive, or DVD players at my house (we have 2) or my girlfriend's DVD player (the players are all seperate, not DVD drives, I have the only DVD drive of anyone that would be watching it). I dont think Id do any modding on the players since none are mine personally. If there isnt any way to get them to work on those without any "modding" then I dont think I'll bother. My girlfriends dad would murder me if I messed up their DVD player ;)

Well if you have any of these DVD players, you're in luck.

LG/Zenith (http://lgregionfree.tripod.com/menu.htm)

Denon 2910/3920 (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&postid=2482512)

I have a Zenith DVB318 and the software for LG6000 series worked for me.

You can always pay a pro like JVB Digital (http://www.jvbdigital.com/) to mod the player for you if you have the cash.
