OK, with Opera if I clicked a link it would simply open it up in a new tab within the existing window instead of starting a whole new window. Is there a way to get Firefox to do this? I looked around in the options a bit and couldn't get it to behave like this. If I goto Tools->Options->Advanced Options there are three options under there for tabbed browsing. None of them seems to get it to open new links up in a tab within the existing window. It still keeps opening a new window every time. Am I missing something here or is this by design?

Try CTRL+click on the link or SHIFT+CTRL+click on the link

Also, be sure to get Tabbrowser Extensions: http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/_tabextensions.html.en

I don't know if it's the "All in One Gestures" plugin, I don't think so, but I can center click, using the mouse wheel button and it opens in a new tab in the same window. And I have, " the most recent tab/window" checked in advanced options.

I know what you're talking about olefarte...that is an extension but I don't recall which one now.

The tabbrowser preferences extension is what I use. That way I can left-click on links and they will open up in a new tab. And if I want to open a new tab in the background, I can simply middle-click on a link. It works any time, every time.

If it's an extension, it's got to be the one I mentioned, as that's the only one I've got installed that even remotely relates. I don't have but a couple, as a matter of fact, installed.

Thankyou guys very much, this extension takes care of it for me. I have to admit I'm a little worried about the bug reports for it - holy crap they practically scare you away from loading the thing. Guess I'll have to use it for a while and see if anything comes up.

I wouldn't sweat it. I've used tons of extensions (try some for a while, uninstall if I don't like/use) and I never have had any problems whatsoever.
