my my main specific question actually is this:

'Is the NV48 meant to have 24 pixel pipelines like the NV47 is reported to have?'

and so overall, my question is: 'what are the main differences supposed to be between NV47 and NV48?'

thanks (xmasmile)

I think there are no differences between NV48 and NV47.
``First``NV48 was rumoured to be released in 4Q 2004 and only difference between NV40 was slightlyfaster GPU(about 450-475mhz)...As we know 24 pipes NV47 never existed. At the moment NVIDIA is preparing ``new``NV48(i suppose)which is likely to have the same specifications like ``never existed``NV47 had...
it will probably have about 300mio transistors 24 pipes 8VS(maybe 10)GPu will be clocked about 450-500mhz and i think memory will be about 1,6-1,8ghz(maybe 2ghz) will be made in 110 nm tech. and there will be some core improvements(to increase performance)
i think NV48 will be offered performance similar to r520 ....

ok thanks for that info. so the retooled NV48 is likely to have 24 pixel pipes like the non-existant NV47 was said to have. 8 Vertex Shaders makes sense also, since r520 reportedly has 8 VS. it's looking like a ~300M transistor NV48 vs ~300M transistor r520. both are SM3.0 or 3.0+ parts.
