But the question is...does the update actually do what its suppose to do? That would suck if it actually made the sound stuttering worse...

I'm going to update now and give it shot and see. The stuttering hasn't been that bad, but occasionally...I'd rather not talk about it. :(
To bad I ended the game two weeks ago, now I can play it stutter free the way it should have been. Thanks Valve. (throwpc)
I hope and pray, the suspense is killing me (xmastong)
I don't really care. Got my self an early Christmas present today, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. (xmasgrin)

That game is awesome :) I'm still playing it now
Same here and for close to half the price of the 'other' new releases.

Damn you Riddick fans. Now I want to buy the game, but I don't have any money for it. :(
It's a great game ! Playing it instead of HL2 :D but, maybe the stuttering fix will convine me to go back to HL2?

It works great here. I haven't finish this game yet. I play slow exploring every level :)
I tried it out and it seems to work like it says. I still have half of the game left since I have been playing nothing but World of Warcrack lately. With some extra time off coming up and Blizzard unable to keep their login servers up I may polish this game off now.

I still get the same stuttering as always.

I take it we should remove any DIY stuttering fixes in our autoexec.cfg files before applying and testing this new patch???
I would imagine they dont mix very well together........????
Thanks. (xmassign)
Finally a patch that works. Now i'm gonna play this game again. :o
Drinking eggnog and enjoying a stutter free HL2. Wee!

seems to be working here - tested it @ lunchtime and the opening trainstation level seemed fine.
I removed all the stuttering related "fixes" from my autoexec.cfg file 1st!!
leaving only cl_smooth 0 and maxfps 85.

Works well here. Too bad I finished HL2 a month ago. :(

SO all the console tweaks are they useless now since steam is updated ? i only have a few but maybe i should remove them all ?

I would ALWAYS advise users to remove there own "tweaks" when patching a game (as many CVARS are updated and changed by patches).
DIY fixes and official patches rarely mix well together, you can always re-apply your own tweaks if needed after patching.
Think about it this way:
If you want to patch a hole (permanently) you have to remove the safety pin/tape or whatever you used to secure it with in the first place.

Short answer from my experience is YES they are all now pointless and not required (except maxfps, cl_smooth 0) which are both useful in CS;S

Cool! just bought the game today at Circuit City for $39, got it loaded, steam updated everything as far as I can tell. Ran out of time and had to go to work, bummer :(. There is always tomorrow :D

Finally I can play Half Life 2 instead of tweak my system 2. Took care of most issues, still some graphical corrupted but whatever...I'll live with it.
