and unless i get my hands on a 21 or 22 inch monitor i'm never going to use 1600X1200 personally.

but wait....gfFX has to be better than r9700 in every way, because it's built on a smaller process. obviously that logic doesn't pan out, because gfFX is not superior in every way, based on simple documentation.
um that has nothing to do with the superiority of one chip to another from a different company (it was just design difference)!im sure nvidia and ati can fit much more into a chips design with a smaller proccess so thats all im saying ,its soooooo obvious ,nothing more said :)

Now that I have a Radeon 9700, let me just say that I'm not so sure that this is the case. I'll do some more investigating, but overall I'm not sure I even like the 9700's FSAA (though it did look absolutely awesome on paper...).

huh? that was sarcasm.
after i said that you can't expect better revolutionary tech just with a process change, alex.burm said thisnothing to do with feature size? of course it has "everything" to do with it, u gimp.
the truth is, as i pointed out, that the die size does not have "everything" to do with it.
people have been comparing the new 8x FSAA with r9700's 6x. now 8x on current nvidia cards has a much greater hit than 6x on the r9700, with similar quality. although we don't know the performance that 8x will have on gfFX nor the quality, but everyone seems to think it will be inferior in both ways.
company and design difference are more likely much more important factors. just because you use .13 doesn't mean you will implement quality features.

ok, now were nitpicking,
of course apart from FET size, obviously other efforts are going to go into the production of the chip right? HDL design and optimisation etc....so technically, FET sizes isnt the only factor, but nonetheless, its just as important if not more than the other factors.
someone was going on about faster logic circuits...well if one amazingly clever guy were to design an optical switching transistor, that would be 1000s of times faster than todays 'npn'-type FETs.
and does anyone have any comments on what i said about using SRAM instead of DRAM? or do u guys think thats utter nonesense?
:D :D :D

What do you mean by this? Its no worse than the GF3/4 and should be better as you have a non-OG sampling patteren among other things......

Well, it is an ATi card after all. He'll nitpick the living crap out of it. ;)

Right. Should be. But I seem to be noticing the "jaggies" a bit more. Could just be a comparison issue (ex. the good edges just look so good that the bad-looking edges really stand out...and there are some angles that look quite poor).
