I was lured to get an x800xt card but after some thinking I found the 6800GT to be a much better deal, it’s cheaper and with little overclocking it can outperform the x800xt.

X800 Pro, X800 Pro VIVO and X800 XT (non-PE) cards are fairly plentiful. As are the GeForce 6800NU, GT and Ultra. I've switched back and forth between ATI and NVIDIA a number of times.

Unless you are looking for the PCI-E cards then just remove nVIDIA from the list.

Don't you mean ATI?

I was undecided between the X800XT PE and the 6800Ultra and the whole PCIE thing. Then the bestbuy $299 deal for the AGP 6800GT OC popped up and I grabbed it.

After seeing the entire ATI availability debacle and how long it has taken for PCIE to become avail. it was the best hardware decision I made all year.

I've since upgraded my proc to an AMD 64 939 pin and my mobo along with it.

Next gen I'll go the PCIE route. Hopefully all the kinks will be worked out by then and availability won't be such an issue.

No becuase NV have few PCI-E cards 6800, 6800GT and and Ultras are rare but ATi's PCI-E X800 Pro and XT are in good stock.

Same here, was looking for the XT800PE and the Bestbuy jaw dropper appeared here in the forum and the rest is history :D. Been very please and glad I went with Nvidia this time around.

Translation. PCI-E -> go nVIDIA. AGP -> go ATI.

You seem to contradict yourself. (snowman)

Same here, I initially ordered an x800XT, but after 3 months of waiting I went for the 6800GT with no regrets.

Ah, I think you meant to say:

Unless you are looking for the PCI-E cards in which case just remove nVIDIA from the list.

The way you originally posted it was very confusing.

And yet here I am at work with 4 X800XT's on the shelf, 2 of which are PE's and still haven't sold :(

A friend of mine got an X800XT PE and is selling it and gettin a 6800U. Even 6800GT outperforms his X800. He has a 3500+ s939, 1Gb Corsair DDR500, Asus Nforce 3 board (can't remember the model number) 2x80Gb WD Sata in Raid 0.

lol in what? Doom 3? Riddick? Overall the X800XT PE is faster than a 6800 Ultra much less a GT. I should know after owning a GT overclocked to Ultra and X800XT overclocked to PE. Im not saying the 6800GT or Ultra is slow, but I fail to believe that they out perform the XT PE.

Strange, here in the country I live in (Jordan) People know one brand Nvidia and believe it or not they buy cards according to how much memory the card has and throw my work in one of the leading Local Computer Assembling companies I spent a life time trying to educate the customers a little bit in which most were shocked of the truth that a 256 MB card does not mean it is better than a one with 128MB.
Ahh yes those were the days.

I doubt that, or your friend's abilities with hardware.

Besides all the review sites contradicting this, I just went from a 6800GT to a X800XT PE, and there is nothing it's slower in. Even Doom3 is the same speed, other games are faster.

(as you'd expect)

Maybe with that CCC stuff enabled [we're talking about D3 btw]. But then you could always lower from quality to high performence and enable 2xaa/4xaa [comes down to your preference]...it's not like you'd notice the IQ difference what with D3 being so dark.

Basically what I'm saying is if you even out the playing field a GT should be marginally faster than a XTPE in D3. Now in other games...XTPE sweeps except for a few OGL games likes Serious Sam. (xmastong)

hahaha

That's what I was thinking.
(snowlol)

I was going to get a X800 but
went with the GT because of bag for the buck.
If the X800Pro had been a 16 pipe card I would
have got one.
There was no X800XT PE's to buy when I
got my GT though. Even if I had wanted one.

Meh :p 6800GT is plenty fast will last till end of 2005 easy, my next upgrade will be whole system rework with dual core cpu and something new from Nvidia and or ATI.
