Hi!

I just wanted to know if you guys prefer playing with a high resolution or a lower one with AA enabled? :) or maybe with both set as high as possible :)

But (xmassign2 to y0 aLL! : (xmastong)

Low res. : 640x480 <
High res. : 1280x1024 <

if you hadn't included high resolution + AA, or at least added the proviso of high res, AA, low frame-rate then this coulda been a bit more interesting!

low res is less visual information on screen, AA loses a bit more (IMO, blurs and rubs the pixels together)...for something like online dm high res is probably the way to go (assuming a decent frame-rate), just bear with the jaggies.

What do you mean by low res. ?
Does 1024 x 768 considered low or high?
For me the 1024 x 768 is the sweet spot with AA and AF.

I don't use AA much at all as nVIDIA's AA is blurry so i tend to always use 1280x1024.

I agree with DJB on this one. 1152 x 864.

Whats the point for including the High res + AA /Low res noAA options ?? .. of course everyone would vote for the High res + AA for what he would prefer to play at .
it would be correct if the poll was only between low res + AA or high res noAA .
in that case i'd choose High res with no AA over low res with AA .

BTW for this generation of video cards .. 1024x768 is considered low res while 1600x1200 is considered high res . at least for me this is how it goes :D

Depends on the game

IMO Racing games and flight sims look better with hi-res low AA

Most shooters like Half life 2 beg for at least 4xAA even if it means lower res.

Doom 3 is the exception as it doesn't benefit much from AA

Interesting, as next month I plan on getting a 22" crt and run at higher resolution. I have always heard that less AA is needed at 16x12 and above. Guess I will find out.

Well, you have a point there... but apparently, people still get what I'm asking here :) so it's kinda hardware related uknow? if you have for instance a 9800pro, it might not run doom3 at 1600x1200 with 4xAA :)

What you will find out is that even at greater res than 1600x1200, you still need some AA.

Too bad Nvidia's implementation of AA sucks so bad. Regardless of resolution, AA seems to only be applied to the closest objects in view. What especially sucks is that the frame rate hit you take when enabling any AA (that only affects closer objects btw), is very disproportionate when compared to ATI's AA. I should add that ATI AA does actually happen full-screen.

I will be going back to ATI when I get some spare change.

Yell at me, call me names. I do know what I see though, and Nvidia AA (so-called FSAA) really is lacking.

I'm even considering putting my 9800XT back in my main gaming box if that doesn't say enough. Doubt I do that though because this 6800GT OC is sooo fast!

Usually I run at the highest resolution I can with as much AA as I can (on my 6800nu that's usually 1152x864 with 4xAA, I'd raise my resolution more but my monitor's refresh rate sucks at anything higher). In cases where games actually put a large strain on my videocard, I'll usually first set AA down a notch, and then lower resolution if it's still too choppy. For DX:IW, I'm running it at 1024x768 with 2xAA. If I needed to lower it more, I'd probably bring it down to 800x600 with 4xAA (or 2xAA, if 4x is still too slow).

1600x1200 2x/4x for most games here

I prefer in the middle 1152x856 (i think) plus some 2xAA or 4xAA. High res without aa would be better but i like to have 100Hz minimum :p

I run most games at 1280x1024 with 8xAA and 16xAF.

High res with AA -- 1280x960 w/ 6xAA and 16xAF for most games. 1280x960 w/ 2xAA and 16xAF for Riddick (I don't play Doom 3 (xmastong) ). 85hz refresh rate.

I dont know what you mean by high res and low res as in the res, is 1024 now low res? Cause thats what i play with, 1024 with 4xaa. I wouldn't mind 1280x960 with 4xaa but my rig cant play that at playable fps, if i had a sli, i would be using that res :D, it does look really really nice.
