This is the card you will be recieving

This is the 2.0ns memory that will come with that card

This is the heatsink that will give you 65C idle and 95C+ load temperatures!

Here is a melted core as a result of those temperatures

Has anyone RMA'd a card with zipzoomfly? I ordered this card there because I heard it was really good, and newegg was sold out :(

I have the XFX 6600GT AGP in my spare PC. It overclocks to 570 core and 1.15 mem with no problem. It does not run overly hot in my PC with stock cooling at this speed. So you must have received a defective card. RMA it...

albatron and msi seem to have much better 6600gt's

Yes and add gigabyte to them too.

Uh, dude...this is what the XFX 6600GT should look like. Not sure what card you received.

Thats what I assumed I was getting, but it is the "updated" version instead

u need good case airflow to keep those cards cool. i ordered an xfx 6600gt. i'll see for myself. i think u just had a bad experience with bad cooling conditions. or u might have gotten a defective card.

Why the heck cant manufacturers stick to the reference design? Nvidia designs a good reference model. And manufacturers have just "got" to change it. *sigh*

I bought an xfx 6600gt agp from zipzoomfly about a month ago and it came with the old reference-style cooler. The card was really good and it would overclock awesome (600/1200) and I really liked it. But about a week ago I booted up my computer and it came up in low res mode (like when you first install drivers) and I couldn't change it. I put my old ti4600 in and everything was fine, so I put the xfx back in and then everything was fine with that card. The next day it booted up again in low res mode and I could never fix it after that, so I RMA'd it. Zipzoomfly RMA'd it no problem as long as its under 30 days after that you have to go through xfx. I think the bridge chip might have died.

I'm waiting for the BFG 6600GT AGP model myself... I don't like the coolers I have seen here because they barely cover the memory at all.

I used to check the temperatures on my card alot and it always hovered around 60-65C at full load. Didn't have any heat problems.

Just wondering. How does the 6600 gt compare to the regular 6800? Would the performance even come close to the 6800 when the 6600 gt is fully overclocked. I currently have a Leadtek 6800 128mb and I'm very happy with it. My friend is planning to upgrade his video card to play doom III and half life 2 but doesn't want to spend like $300 for the 6800.

Thats ok for core temperature, I suppose. But with that type of cooler who knows how hot the ram is getting...

6600GT has good amount of gaming power. Not as powerful as the 6800 of course, but it does have wmv hardware decoding capabilities that most 6800 NU/GT/U are lacking.

how in the HELL are you guys able to get your cards to 570 and 600MHz cores?! Jesus Almighty...that is insane!

I got mine to 600 once just to run it through 3dmark 03, ran it through but with artifacts on screen. (scored 9473)

i don't know what that means *embarassed*.

I don't understand what the numbers for those benchmark programs mean/what's good/standard etc. I just know that the higher the year and the higher the score, the better.

an XFX 6600gt agp runs at 500mhz-core and 1000mhz-memory (default) at that speed you will score around 8000 points on 3dmark 03.

i got the card with the normal heat sync (blue dog one). it is GREAT 45C/65C, and overclocks nicely. DO NOT badmouth this card. it is the BEST way better than a 9800xt.

Have you wondered about your case cooling first? I mean... 70C, IDLE? WTF? buy some fans, man.

PS, I may sound like an idiot because I just read the first message post, so this is my reply to the first message on this thread.

Wow I guess you're right!

3DMark05 Online Results:

6600 GT High Score = 7,930 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=406133)
9800 XT High Score = 3,970 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=259659)

*edit - oh wait that 6600 was SLI mode. Oops. Now that i look at the scores closer, the 6600 GT and 9800 XT are pretty close performance wise. Which suprises me because the 9800XT is 8-pipeline 256-bit memory. The 6600 GT is 8-pipe 128-bit I think. I guess the extra speed on the memory makes up for the narrow bus.

Well I think that 6600gt score is an SLI setup, but the 6600gt is better than the 9800xt because it runs 100mhz faster(core) and it has DDR3

the core and ram speed DOES NOT decide which card is better. It is the architecture. do not worry about that. It is not better than the 9800xt, but more on PAR. if Overclocked it is definatelly better. my 3dmark05 scores are low because of my crappy ram, and processor. I will buy one soon, and motherboard, and benchmark again.
