Thats the 2d clock, the 3d clock should be 500 and should overclock to 550 easily.
it idles at around 42 C, is that about normal?
also, should i overclock the 2d and 3d?
or just 3d?

42C is pretty good for idle, should be around 60-65 full load. Some people like to set both clocks the same, but personally I just set the 3d clock when I'm overclocking

Why would you wanna overclock the 2d?
D2 is when your card running the desktop or using any non 3d Applications, like browsing the internet, using MS office and listen to MP3!!

When I said some people I was referring mainly to 6800gt users who think they get better overclocks
how much should i OC if it idles @ 42C?

I can get mine up to 570 stable, it will go higher but I get artifacts on the screen after that.
then i will go with 560 :)

People clock the 2D to the same as 3D so the card won't throttle back to 2D speeds while benchmarking and stuff. Basically, just forcing the card to run at max clock all the time...

Make sure your case cooling is properly set up. No obstructions in front of the hs/f, etc.
And does the card ramp up to 3d speeds if your running a 2d game like megaman x? Because then I suppose it wouldn't hurt to oc your 2d at the same level of your 3d.
