View Full Version : Manning sets single-season TD record

Everyone knew it was coming and it happened like it should; within the natural (and clutch at that) flow of the game. I applaud Peyton for how he has handled this record business throughout though. Peyton Manning oozes class, humility, respect and professionalism. The on-field interview with him shortly after the game was really neat with Marino being patched in to congratulate him. Marino was Peyton's favorite QB (other than his dad) growing up. Peyton told Dan live on the air that "you're my hero". Peyton was 10 years old when he first met Marino.
congrats to him...
would have been nice for him to get it last week, but now the monkey is off the back he can open up again..
and WHATTA FINISH to that game
marino looked perturbed tbh... at losing the record... but he has class...

I'm glad they won the game, or the record would have meant much less to him right now.

I honestly thought Marino's record would last longer than it did. Who else has ever even come close to breaking it until now?
Warner had 41 TDs back in 1999 IIRC but that's still 7 shy, the drop after that was Favre with 35 or so.
Yeah, Marino has seemed a bit back and forth as far as how he was dealing with his record falling. Overall though I think he's shown a lot of class which is true to his character as well. It's nice to see professional atheletes that have such respect for their team, competitors and the game itself.
i just cant stand manning. its maybe just me but i prefer other quaterbacks like vick who i know is overated but is very exciting and big ben at pittsburgh. The steelers are gonna own the colts in the afc championshop game :D
I also like the jags QB... specially since he's played hurt most the season...
leftwich is a good player too...

Manning seems pretty exciting to me, most of the games this year have been over at half-time (including this last game against Denver). I don't understand how some people "can't stand Manning". Oh well.
The Steelers are impressive. I'm hoping for a 1995 AFC Championship game rematch as well! :)

Call me a throwback, but I find a QB like Manning to be more exciting than Vick. After all, the QB's job is to throw the ball first, and run second. Vick is finally learning that sometimes it's better to hang in there for a few seconds more and let something develop downfield instead of taking off at every chance he gets.

But vick almost had 1000 yards rushing this year so he is not hanging back in the pocket. One of these days a safety (like John Lynch) is gonna clean him out when hes not looking and trust me when that happens he'll stay in the pocket more :D

Exactly, mobile QBs historically don't have a very long tenure in the NFL (Favre is a good exception though he's almost in a category all his own). To run first like Vick does is fine for a tailback but as QBs go it seems to indicate something lacking to play that position...sure, it can be comepnsated for by 1,000 rushing but that's limited upside IMO.
