View Full Version : No geforceFX doom3 demo at comdex. Why?
Why didn't nvidia demo doom3 at comdex and why JC hasn't said anything about it?We all remember him using radeon 9700 at E3 & Quakecon and praising it for its ideal features for doom3.

Because JC doesn't need to show off Doom 3 at Comdex. He already did that at E3. What good would it be for him to show it off again at Comdex when it'll basically be the same thing as E3?

Isn't it good marketing to show off your new card on doom3 or is it a matter of JC not wanting to show doom3 at nvidias launch?
Several months have passed since E3 why would doom3 look the same?

maybe he thought we've all already seen enough with the alpha. and i'm sure hes making some dramatic changes because of the alpha leak.

Maybe Geforce Fx wasn't so impressive to show :p
Or Doom 3 is so far from being done there was no point showing same old alpha
Sad we have no other competitors just ATI & Nvidia :o

Ok, if you like DX7 so much...
And it's not a new engine. It's the same engine the original UT runs on. All they did was add more textures and tweak a few things. At least JC is making a completely new engine with Doom 3.

same engine ut runs on? are you kidding?
I'll think the reason is, because he stated he wasn't going to.
JC said he didn't want to end up showing doom3 twice before completion. He's already shown it at e3. The next (official) time will be test_Demo, or the full release.

be gone with thee you id worshipper! :p
If JC wants to re-invent the wheel every 4yrs or so, let him...Epic can tweak this/that to get things to work, and they work well. A bit ahead of it's time, but so is JC, just two paths to the same destination, although Epic can get there quicker, and look just as good, and IMO make better games in the process...
If any of you had looked at the Are you Ready site before the launch, you would have see a write up from JC on Nvidias new card

Yes, I am kidding. It was all a joke. :p
No, seriously, it's the same engine. It's just been updated. The game isn't even DX8. It's a revamped DX7.
Matt, I don't see anyone else going to such links that JC is going to make a game. His new engine will be the basis for many future games. And I dunno how you can say UT2k3 looks as good as Doom 3. Heck, even the alpha version looks better than UT2k3. I'm not bashing UT though, cause I'm a big fan of that game too.

It does use DX8 specific features, and has much better code in general.
Its the same game is about all I could agree with you on.
As to doom 3, no, they don't compete, but Unreal 2 might. (I can say that because of the press blackout :P and what I heard from the recent media day)

Yeah, UT2k3 uses a few DX8 instructions, but that doesn't make it a DX8 game. It's still a DX7 game.

If you say so.

I didn't say so. That's what it is. It's a DX7 game. The whole graphics engine is based on DX7.

As far as I can tell though, cube mapping is dx8. Which is probably the only feature in UT2003 that makes it attractive to me.
waitin on Unreal 2 here.

If you really don't care, then why are you posting about it at all?

For one day only, you can pay me to stop being disagreeable! Only $100!
The Unreal Engine has been greatly upgarded to DX8.1 with use of Vertex shaders and pixel shaders but it does use a bit of DX 6 & 7 in the mix with cubic mapping and bumpmapping.

Isn't the Doom 3 engine built off of a version of the Quake 3 engine as a base? Thats what I remember, not totally new engine. Besides, Unreal engine looks better.:p

nope, cube mapping is DX7, it was first available on the original gf256. Sweeny also criticized the Kyro for not supporting it, along with hardware T&L.
