Cool Bodomite,
That's the exact one I would have got if I were you...and its the same one Baracade980 already has and he seems pretty happy with it. You'll have to let us know how everything turns out when you get the card installed and try some games.

Oh and I am!

It is a great card man... best for a PCI in my opinion. You might expect it a little early though, my shipping took a day less than they said! Just make sure you follow the insructions and if you got any q's about it give me a PM so I can help you.

Word, so i PM'ed baracade about the drivers, he said 66.33 were the ones he uses, and he mentioned forceware, what is forceware and are the 66.33 drivers the best drivers for this card?

oh bodomite, guess I shoulda explained that eh? I use the 66.93 drivers (latest version). ForceWare is this thing you can get from NVidia that 'forces' your card to go with older drivers if you want them to, because some games work better with them.

Actually, I have the ForceWare program, but I rarely use it.

Ah, alright thanks. What games do you use it for?

I think the simplest explanation is that "Forceware" is just the name nvidia gives their driver set...plus nvidia includes some extra features in it to control your video out port and it also has some features that can force certain graphic settings in your games (such as antialiasing or anisotropic filtering). I'm sure there is other stuff inside forceware that I don't know about and don't use. Basically as Baracade980 said...just go to nvidia.com and download the latest forceware drivers 66.93 when you get your card installed. I use the latest 66.93 drivers for my geforce 6800 as well and haven't had any problems and my brother uses that version for his geforce 5700LE AGP and has had no issues either.

Word, thanks for the info.

Well, ForceWare is pretty much forcing a perticular driver from what I understand. It also gives control of other stuff (mentioned above). You can go to pre-determind settings for games that NVidia thinks is the best. I don't use them though, for anything. I pretty much keep everything on the latest driver, with application controlled settings. So, it varies from game to game what special settings I use... but as far as forcing a driver, I don't.

What in the heck are you talking about? really, I've NEVER heard anyone say anything like this about nvidia drivers...

Ok I could be wrong. I don't mess with that stuff anyways... I'm just tryin to help out.

What do you guys think it is then (no offence indended)?
Whatever helps this guy and his card. You guys tell him what it is then, cause like I said, I don't mess with it.

word, dont blame baracade he was just trying to help out, if you think its something else, then please share... dont go bitching about where he got his info from.

...ehh... :-l

dude, um, I know he was trying to help. I'm not "going bitching" (though that sounds like fun... me and a couple friends and a big bottle of jager, and a list of ppl to bitch at :p:p)

Never before have I heard anything like he said about Forceware drivers, so I felt privy to ask...

Baracade980

so then rage... what do you say they are? Just so we can actually figure out what they are.

And I gathered my info from this board actually, and the NVidia page. So if it IS something else... please share, because I'd like to know what it is too if I'm getting it wrong.

(just so there aren't any arguments, no offence this whole thing too.)

Just to jump in here...Forceware is just what Nvidia calls their drivers. And like I mentioned before, they bundle some extra features in with the drivers and give you some settings that you can change which will force certain graphics settings in your games...but there isn't anything in forceware that forces certain games to use an older driver or anything. You can just leave everything in the forceware driver settings set to "application controlled" which is the default setting...this just lets the graphics settings in the actual games control everything which sometimes avoids problems depending on the game. Many people out there really have no need to go into the forceware driver settings at all actually. Hopefully this clears up any confusion...this type of stuff can easily get confusing.

Something happened to my package, it ended up like an hour away from my house and stopped, they sent me a not saying there was a problem. Ill have it by wednesday. :/

Oh, that sucks. I've been curious to see how this turns out. Baracade980 is happy with this card and if you are too then I think my friend will jump on board and buy one for himself too since he's been on the edge of buying one for his non-agp system. Hopefully you'll get it Wednesday then...otherwise I probably will be out of town from Thursday until the beginning of next week and won't get to hear how everything went and won't be able to help if something goes wrong. Although I'm sure Baracade980 can help since he already has the card if there is a problem.

Yep, i called, they said they didnt leave it cause i want home. Ill have it tommarow. Ill let you now how everything works. Should i reinstall my games or anything, i know that im gonna reinstall HL2.

ekloot1978
01-10-05, 08:44 PM
No, I don't think you should have to re-install your games typically. I would say that if you have problems with a specific game after installing the card then you might want to try uninstalling the game, delete any folders left by it, and then reinstall the game...but normally that is not necessary. Maybe someone else here has some experiences with respect to this and can give you more info.

Yeah, the only reason why i said this was because i had a lot of trouble a while ago with a mx440 in my other computer, apon opening counterstrike it would freeze everytime, same with all video files, and all other 3d consuming applications, so I tried reinstalling everything cause i thought i was suppose to do that first. Thanks its about 10:00 here and the fedex guy doesnt usually come till about 11.
