Hey all, About 3 or 4 months ago there was an announcement for the GF6700. This was supposed to replace the 6800 for the ~$250-300 price range, being cheaper make because it used the smaller NV41 core. I don't remember the exact rumored specs, but I was considering waiting for it until I found out it was going to be PCI-e at launch. I then opted for the 6800NU AGP and was happy I did cause of the softmod ability.

Anyway, is there anymore news about a Geforce 6700? Or is the now NV41 core just the new 6800 PCI-e that was supposed to be named 6700 when it was announced?

From what I've been reading, the NV41 is the PCIe version of the 6800. Maybe that info was wrong. Maybe they're delaying it due to the X800XL, thinking how to counter it. Anyone else with solid info?

NV41 already exists, and it was only a rumour that it would be called the 6700. As Lfctony says, it's the PCIe version of the 6800 NU, and it only actually has 12x1 5vp in hardware. Nothing to unlock.

Edit... fixed the Unlick call.

Unlick? Just because it's called a "vanilla" 6800 doesn't mean it has a taste to it :p
Sorry, shameless ripoff of what some other guy said in the 6800 unlocking thread, heh.

And yes, the "6700" is actually the 6800nu PCI-E. Wouldn't surprise me if they used the 6700 name for a future card, has anyone else noticed Nvidia's numbering scheme is exactly the same as their last generation? I.e. -200 for the lowend, -600 for the mid-range, -800 for the highend. The 6700 will probably be a refresh of the 6600 series, if history repeats itself.

I think the NV46 should be GeForce6700.

If that's the case, can we expect the NV48 (if it ever comes out) will be a Geforce 6900/6950? Or will they be the new 7xxx series? Or will the NV50 be the 7 series? What's the rumor?

No real rumours about release numbers. I'd say it *might* be the 7 series, but it shouldn't be. The only reason it would be, would be to make it look equal with whatever the next series of Radeons are. Bear in mind that at present it looks like the R520 is going to be competing with an NV40 based architecture. Hmmm.

Yeah, I want to see what nvidia is actually planning on doing to counter the x800xl. The next few months should be interesting for the gpu war.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what nvidia does about the X800XL. You figure they will have to lower the price of the 6800GTs. What else could be done?

woohoo! My first NVNews post! (xmasgrin)

They need to release a version of their high end cards that has a 100% functional video processor.

What I don't understand though is the X850 Pro. It's slower than the X800XL and more expensive. Why don't they just can that and bridge the X800XL for the AGP market? It will sell like crazy.

ATi seems more concetrated on the OEM market which is finally shifting to PCIe. The retail market (people buying upgrades or building their machines by themselves is a small portion) Call me a pessimist, but I'm not sure we will see any other high end card from NVidia or ATi bridged back to AGP.

i think NV should release something to compete x800 and x800xl f.e.NV46 which would be based on NV48.it wlould be pretty nice when you could buy 12 or 16 pipes card below 250 bucks..
New Riva Tuner supports this:``Added experimental NV46 and NV47 graphics processors support.``
maybe NV46 will come in 3-4 months or maybe earlier
