I am running RedHat 8.0 with a TNT2 M64 32 MB video card. X was working fine with RedHat's stock install. I just installed the nvidia glx and kernel drivers downloaded from nvidia's website. I followed instructions as I have done several times before for similar systems. I rebuilt the kernel from src rpm, installed the glx rpm and then changed the necessary lines in Xfree86config file. When I rebooted, there was no login screen and the NVIDIA logo keeps flashing every minute or so in full screen and then goes blank. I can see some error message like
apm:suspend was vetoed
before everything goes blank again.

Hitting Ctrl-Alt-F1 doesn't get me to console mode either. I am really stuck! Somebody please help before I go crazy! Thanks a lot beforehand.:(

The easiest way to "fix" this is to boot into single-user mode, edit /etc/inittab and make sure the default is:

id:3:initdefault:

or something resembling it (but '3' is important). Then make sure you've installed (not just compiled) the rpm containing the Nvidia kernel module.
