View Full Version : Star Wars: New Jedi Order = our war on terrorism?
So I just finished the latest New Jedi Order book, Destiny's Way. Yes, I can be a man and admit that I read such brain candy. That's my break book between A Short History of Byzantium by John Julius Norwich (for my Medieval: Total War historical fix) and The Mortification of Sin in Believers by John Owen ('cause the old Puritans were philosophical and theological geniuses).
Anyhow, what really strikes me about this series is the parallels between the Yuuzhan Vong and the Islamofascists. They're both religious fanatics, both intent on destroying the dominant societies, both intent on the convert-or-kill mentality toward their opponents, both followers of a cult of death and suicide. What do you think? For a series of Star Wars books, they've got some pretty deep nuggets buried away...
Cheers,
JND
 My head hurts. I'm going to take a nap now. *smiles with pudding around his mouth"
In all seriousness the Star Wars saga is basically the story of the American revolution, though I do not know anything about the New Jedi Order book(s).

That, IMHO, is just the story of man. It's written somewhere in our genes. Some are just more willing / able to repress this aspect of our personnality, that is all.

Oh, right, no argument there (about Ep. 4-6, at least). I guess if nobody's read the NJO books (series started back in '99), it's kind of a moot point. They're one of the more entertaining series set in the SW universe (something like 25 years after RotJ, so there are lots of Jedi again...).
The series would probably make a fun action/strategy game (as long as it was done well)...
I only bring it up because (1) I just finished the book and (2) I saw the news stories about the blow-up-myself-and-children bus bomber in Jerusalem and the murder-a-Christian-nurse in Lebanon. Courtesy of the Religion of Peace, naturally.
Ahh, well. Guess I'll bury my nose back in the non-fiction... :p
Cheers,
JND
