Yet another noob on your website.

I would like some help with choosing a graphics card. I am currently updating my whole PC from pants DELL integrated graphics etc. I have researched and found the following graphics cards available:

XFX 6600Gt AGP 150
XFX 6800 200
BFG 6800 GT 232
or a second hand leadtek A400 6800 ultra for 250

I would like help with whether these brands are good ones and what you would chose/ is the best value for money. Is the ultra really worth that much more???

All cards listed should be good. The 6800GT with BFG's warranty would get my vote for best choice. If price is a consideration I would not hesitate going with the 6600GT. At the price difference you show I would go with the 6800GT over the 6800nu.
The Ultra is faster but I would go for the new 6800GT over the Ultra unless I was set on having the fastest and knew the card's history and how it had been taken care of.

Also, the 6800GT and Ultra will benefit from a high end processor and 1 gig of PC3200, or higher, quality ram

I dont like the second hand stuff & esp. with hardware .
so i'll recommend the BFG 6800GT .

I think your best bet is the 6800GT especially since its BFG and you get lifetime warranty. 2nd hand Ultra may be nice, but you get no warranty with it.

Thanks guys, I probably will get the BFG, I just have to wait a while till it is in stock again. It will be added to a ASUS P4P800 and a 2.8 P4 with a 480watt PSU. Do you think this will be ok? I hope my 512 Ram PC2700 will be sufficient, otherwise I might have to get some more.

Yep get more RAM if you can .. 1GB DDR400 should be great if you can afford it . heck even a value RAM would do .
CPU & PSU are OK .

All bestbuy stores have BFGoc 6800GT's in stock.
If you do not want to wait. ;)

That is, of course, entirely dependant on whether you live in the US or not.

I am afraid it bad news for you, PC World Component Centre are no longer stock it anymore as it all sold out, dont expect it in stock soon. I guess you will go for second hand Leadtek 6800 Ultra for 250, I think you should get one quick or all will be gone quick because of January Sales on. :(

NOT CORRECT.

The online version of Best Buy may show it in stock at certain times, but that does NOT mean the local brisck stores have it. I know as I have checked several.
Out of the 10+ Best Buy stores in Colorado , only ONE has it in stock...so no not all Best Buy's have it in stock at the store....not even close.
When the online site says it is in stock it means that somewhere in the country, there is some in stock at various stores and it will ship to you from the closest store relative to you OR the warehouse distrubtion centers have some and then it ships from there.

The 6800GT is the easy choice. Its performance is well worth the extra cost.

Why not just e-mail the store and ask about expected availability? Most outlets are more than happy to help a prospective customer.

Which other 6800GT cards do you know nof that are fairly cheap? The reason I went for the BFG originally was that it was cheap. I dont mind oem. All the other GT's seem to be 280 or more which I cant really afford. The 250 for the ultra would be the real limit of my budget.

While the Ultra has a good price it is used. You would be getting an excellent card but if something goes wrong you will be responsible for getting it fixed. Accept that fact buy the card and you will be satisfied.

You should be able to find another GT at the same price point or cheaper and someone said the one you listed is 'way better' than XFX. That would be difficult to prove based on a simple search that I did. Anyway, that is flaming without being specific and will not further be tolerated. I have an eVGA and do not experience the 'stuttering' except in a couple of places in HL2 but I think that is a sound bug. So any 256MB GT with Samsung CG20 or CG16 rated memory substituted to your list would still get my vote as it should work good with your system and are reported as performing well. I can say without reservation that the GT I have gives me a lot of gaming enjoyment in all games that I have tried.
