Interesting stuff. I for one would love to hear just as much about rocket fab as about graphics... so long as he starts at a pretty low level on the rocket fab topic.

Ah man, that reminded me that I need to start reading "The Making of Doom3", which I got for christmas :)

Teh Carmack speakth the truth :D

Oh yeah, Intel17 the "OMG, who is greatest, Tim Sweeny orJohn Carmack"-guy? :D

John is clearly superior, but I think Tim isn't bored with graphics, like Carmack is! (but when you're the best, you tend to get bored ;))

There are still bits of early Quake code in Half Life 2,

Interesting remark . so Source engine does have some of Quake engine leftovers .

I suppose they kept building on the HL engine, which was made on Quake1 engine with bits of Q2 (netcode i think)..
Doom III engine is build from Q3, replaced renderer, rewrote netcode, changed out the soundengine and so on, its prolly neater since you got working bits inplace to start with.

Interesting remark . so Source engine does have some of Quake engine leftovers .

This was already confirmed in a valve interview shortly after E3 2003 and again later due to the "source" source code leak.

Unlike many currently believe, the Source engine was not coded from scratch but build on the work of the Quake/HL1 engine.

I remember a friend, who worked on a Q1 Mod and knew the Q1 structure quite well, who told me shortly after the source code leak that the leak was fake because the code was based on Quake 1 and not HL2 :)

Seems we'll have to wait awhile longer for the Q3 source... ah well, Carmack still rocks :)
