64-bit users have little choice.

Actually I've been waiting for the 64bit version of several drivers to become a bit more stable before I take the plunge and install 64bit windows.

A question, does installing the 64bit edition mess with the 32bit edition set up?

if you want to dual boot then xp 64 needs to be installed after xp.

32 bit drivers will not..........absolutely will not........work with xp 64.........

64 bit drivers will not work with xp.

so far xp 64 beta, both builds, stable no probs, i have't had a problem findin drivers either. some windows features are deliberately disabled in the beta builds. in 1067 agp acceleration was a no-go, in 1218 its wmp thats borked. but 99% of 32 bit apps run fine on xp 64, AV and firewall would be noteable exceptions. That said v1218 comes with windows icf (a-la sp2) and dep. And macafee virusscan enterprise 8.0 works just fine on xp 64.

thanks for the heads up garikfox.............

These must be the drivers MSI used with thier Dual GPU 6600GT, although it says Windows XP as the OS in thier setup.

Does 64 bit actually help in games? Or is it another scam like SM3.0.?..you know one of those features that probably wont be used for atleast 5 years and by then the feature on the old products will be beyond useless.

Speaking of SM3....isen't Battle for Middle Earth/Pacific Assault suppose to support SM3?

heard reports from Valve and Crytek that their 64bit ports are about 33% faster in 64bit mode.
Farcry 64bit port has been said to feature alot more objects and stuff, I guess they traded in that extra performance for visuals.
Think STALKER is announced to come in a 64bit version aswell..

So yes, it SEEMS like 64bit for gaming will help atm, we will have to wait and see for sure I spose..

EDIT
Btw you prolly wont se any differenece in 32bit games running on XP64 and A64 CPUs, only true 64bit ports of the games.

I am curious as to where one would get windows xp 64. I am building a pc based on Athlon 64 3200+, and would like to know if there is any difference in performance by using 64, and what features were taken out/ put in.

Im using them now on 1289 or RC1 release of winxp x64 edition. Great stuff, weird thing is 1289 includes agp and smbus nf3 drivers already.

Painkiller: BooH is using SM 3.0 apparently. On the gamebox it says "support for Shader Model 3.0"

I guess they will be released sometime after XP64 is..
If they come in "free" forms as patches or such I havent heard, but I would think so..

when they release 64bit versions of their games, you need a 64bit OS and a 64bit supporting CPU to run them.
Im too tired (early morning) to go off searching for the links as they are old by now, did find this one searching Warp2search tho..

linky top right of that page......

back on topic. installed these drivers. so far so good........no bsod or black screens.

haven't tried em with any games yet.........but i will..........

the 66.96's gave me a two second black screen every time i right clicked the desktop or the nv icon in the tray or selected an item in the 6800gt properties............

61.76 64-bit was the same as 32 bit inasmuch as farcry shadows and water were borked. instead of wter there was just flat "blue" and the shadows looked more like mist...........
