Hello ,

Hmmm this is strange

My Leadtek 6800GT will only do 370/1.03 when I try to push in forcware (autodetection)
EVERY review of this card and most of the people with same card is getting at least 400/1100 with it.
I cant belive that was unlucky with both low clocking core AND low clocking memory.
I think my bad overclocking is because of my butterfly 480w PSU ( 18A on 12V line) , but then again people with lower PSU spec. are getting higher overclock.

Is it my thermaltake or I didnt have luck with leadtek ?
what do you think ,any opinion is welcome !

thx

just be happy your card works at anything above stock... or be happy it works at all.

If you do the 1.4v bios mod you will be able to overclock alot higher.

And risk frying the card after a month.

Are the 3 extra FPS really worth that much to you?

It's not gonna fry the card jerkoff!!

You wanted a GT, hence you bought one, if you wanted a core of 400mhz, you would have bought an Ultra. It's nice to get the boost, but you really can't complain if you don't. Your GT is not a dud, it works at the spec it was assigned to. Try getting a better Power Supply with a 12volt rail of over 26 or so, and give it a shot. Buying a better power supply is never a waste of money.

as a related question... I have the gainward goldensample 6800GT wich is gaurnteed by gainward to hit 400/1.1. Now the other day I clocked it to 400/1.1 and hit up some cs:s, after about 5 mins the screen filled with white horizontal squiggly lines and the pc hardlocked. I tried a couple other games and they played without crashes/artifacts. So I have a 431w enermax psu and I was wondering if it might be limiting my ability to o/c or could it be that perhaps I got a bum card?

Edit: For the record moving from 350/1000 to 400/1.1 netted me a 10fps boost at 1600x1200 4x/16x in the cs:s stress test.

CSS has not the best graphics, is a good game to check for a stable OC tho.
Gainward GS cards do that all the time. The way the hand select chips is more than questionable. You got 400/1100 warranted. I'd ask for a replacement card.

ya only source engine is crashing the card... doom3 and all my other games run it no problem. So you think that the psu is a non issue here? also temps seem to be around 70c while the card is overclocked, I've hard of past issues with gainward not tightening thier heatsinks down enough... is that an issue with thier 6800Gt series of cards?

It is a non-issue. With my GT clocked at 410/1130, I could loop 3DM03 all day long without issue. But HL2 would behave strangely, causing either crashes to the desktop or BSODs. Dropped the clock back down to 400/1100 and HL2 hasn't crashed once.

I'll drink to that. :beer2:

try to change your driver and reinstall coolbits. As far as the memory you will not notice any defferance by ocing it

The 'autodetect' feature will always clock it lower than manual overclocking.
Try overclocking it manually, you're more likely to get a higher overcolck.

So the general consensus here is that I should return the card?? as it will not play every game at it's gaurunteed speed of 400/1.1?

Well so what if you cant hit what others hit ? you just had some bad luck getting one and sending it back is stupid because leadtek does not guarantee you that youcan overclock to thoose speeds so stop whining.

Your OC could be hindered by the cooling on your card. NO matter how good the stock cooler is that's provided by Leadtek, if your room ambient temp is too high, your card will act up later.

If you suspect that cooling isn't an issue and you have enough power wattage to go around, you could try a BIOS flash that can change the voltage being provided to your core. Additionally, a BIOS flash can also lock down your card to a new speed setpoint.

Check this thread out from HardOCP and make up your mind:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=785299

I've had great success getting as high as 440MHZ/1200MHZ at one point.

I've lowered my OC on the GPU, however, so I could increase my OC on my CPU (weird inverse phenomenon).

Good luck and dont' flash unless you have good cooling.

Same card here with great overclocks, strange problem but best bet would be heat. Is your cpu overclocked too? May be cause of problems if it is.

were is this guarenteed 400/1.1? you either misread something or somebody has been blowing sunshine up your ass.
you might want to check the heatsink assembly. when i had my gt lite i noticed it was a little loose. you want to be careful doing this. go from side to side & only a 1/4 turn at a time. if you need it.
i personally would not risk flashing the bios. your card is probably just a poor oc'er & trying to push it even further is asking for trouble.
and saying it is not going to fry the card is totally irresponsible.

Every review site has mentioned that the 6800GT goldensample is gaurunteed by gainward to hit 6800Ultra speeds and on gainwards website and on my box it states that it is gaurunteed to run at "signifigantly enhanced clockspeeds". I will try tightening the heatsink assembly down if need be.
