When running my app with stereo enabled (in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4), the app runs much more quickly when displaying graphics in stereo than in mono.

Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior, and been able to arrive at a cause/fix?

thanks,

Craig

Mono viewing slowness is a verfied (at least repeatable) problem with the Quadro4 cards using the Detonator drivers in Windows. Stereo viewing performance is excellent, but there appear to be related problems causing screen image stutter in stereo mode.

I am in the process of investigating the problem with PNY and hopefully NVidia. Slowness has been verified (by me anyway) in 900XGL and 550XGL cards with various versions of Detonator drivers. Linux drivers were also briefly tested and I think showed the same problem, as you indicate.

Hopefully it will get fixed soon...

Is anything being done about this? The problem still seems to be there in the 4363 drivers.

the latest linux drivers have this issue still.

stereo is really fast, mono runs at orders of magnitude slower, feels like software rendering to me.

Yes, I just replied to another thread about this.

To reiterate what I said there, our company bought a number of these cards specifically to use hw stereo under Linux. however, the performance in "regular" display mode is quite bad and at times for the things we are displaying, unusable.

I have a colleague who has a lower end nvidia card and he gets much better performance.

We had hoped to be able to recommend this card to our users, but until this problem gets resolved we cannot. And worse it means we may not really be able to deploy this throughout our company until then.

I believe I have 1.0-4363 currently installed. This shows the same problem.

Has anyone been able to contact nvidia about this issue?

yeap, same drivers for me.

i've contacted nvidia, write them a nice letter, not a pointless flame, hopefully i'll hear back from them.
