View Full Version : GeForce 4 Ti 4800/SE name is misleading
Is it me or is it misleading. The Geforce 4 TI4800 runs at 300MHz & 650MHz like the TI4600 but with AGP 8x. Then you have the Geforce 4 TI4800SE which runs at 300MHz and 550MHz and AGP 8x, it's this card that’s misleading, what do you think SE means, select edition, or special edition what? to me from the name the TI4800SE sounds better then the bog standard TI4800 but it is not.

Stop looking at the name, look @ the price :p
Just that people complained about the Radeon 9500 & Radeon 9500Pro as you would guess the Pro is faster,
Slower Edition, lol thats a goodin.

have either of these cards actually been official announced?
if not, there is nothing to complain about, as the card(s) may never exist, or the naming scheme might change.
they should definetly change the name, I was wondering about the specs myself, and nowhere on NVidia's site did they mention a TI4800 GPU chipset. What chip is it? A TI4200 overclocked? Or is it a TI4600 with slower memory. Either way, it doesn't deserve the right to be called TI4800 thats simply false advertising.
Maybe they should simply call it "GeForce4 TI-8x" ;)
In cars, when I see "SE", it usually accompanies hubcaps instead of alum. rims, chrome fender lining, cheapo ground effects, and the base model motor with imitation dual exhaust... They should call the regular 4800 a "GT":p Oh wait that's a throwback to Gigatexel! Sheesh!
...and yes, it is about the specs, not the name.

the Ti4800 is rumored to be a gf4Ti4600 AGP 8x, and the Ti4800SE is rumored to be a gf4Ti4400 AGP 8x.
i'm not sure this makes all that much sense, with the rumors, again, that nvidia was going to stop Ti4400 production because sales of this model weren't too hot. or maybe this last one wasn't a rumor, whatever.

The only reason I'm glad to see these cards come out is that the 4x AGP versions might come down in price. Benchmarks show there is very little difference. People who don't have a ****ing clue what AGP even is will see a bigger number and think to themselves, wow, this must be better.

and that tells exactly zero about the card, assuming you were referring to the link to Tom's Hardware Comdex Day 2.
this is all it said This is the new MSI Ti4800SE, that will be replacing the Ti4600 board that MSI was selling.
no mention of it being faster or slower.

That sucks ive been looking for one. I think im gonna go with the LeadTek Ti4600 the heatsink looks pretty fly and my P3 866 Coppermine is begging for some video graphics performance.
I picked up 2 x 256mb Micron Crucial PC133 CL=2 sticks to go with the upgrade too.
Hopefully this time next week I will be joining my peeps in some X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter Balance of power.
BTW i have a 300watt power supply, you think I will need a bigger PSU?
Thanks!

The Pro was faster. The 9500 Pro was the card that could also have the pipes unlocked, and be modded to a 9700 non-pro.

that was actually the 9500 non pro... the 9500 pro already had all the pipes unlocked... it was basically a 9700 non pro on a 128bit bus... great card for the money though
