"The Age of Empires III engine is a fully DX9, Shader 3.0 compliant engine with more technical bells and whistles than any other PC game to date. As you can see from the screenshots, we have a world that feels bright and sunny, but with a softness and depth that hasn't been seen before. From things like self-shadowing to HDR (high dynamic range) lighting to water that has proper Fresnel reflectance properties, this is a very high-end graphics engine.

We've also integrated physics into the game in a big way. When units are blown up by cannon fire, we use ragdolls to bounce them around the world, off of rooftops, and down cliffs. As buildings take artillery damage, pieces of the building realistically break off and fall down with proper collision modeling. When you throw in hundreds of integrated animations per unit, the overall effect is quite impressive. "

Taken from an interview over at IGN.

Holy sh*t

Looks so gorgeous! It's nice to be able to look forward to a new RTS :D
It'll be exiting to see how it compares to Empire Earth 2, but i seriously doubt that even EE2 can live up to these images, on the other hand, graphics isn't everything, but it certainly helps creating a truly great experience

Wow it looks even better than it did before.

01-04-05, 02:05 PM
Ok, someone needs to license that engine and make some Action RPGs and adventure games. It looks absolutely AMAZING. Finally, something that can totaly blow away 2d graphics.

BTW, Id like to see that on ground level for a first person type view. I bet it looks better than half-life (1) yet has 100x more objects and GIGANTIC maps.

Wow, just wow. I hope my 9800 Pro can still cut the mustard.

For once I might play that game

01-04-05, 09:39 PM
Seriously what kind of power will you need to play at those settings , 3dmark 2005 doesn't look half as good and runs like turtle :D , probably dual R520 or something :p

Please tell me that SM3.0 support is only for speed because if I miss out on HDR or something im gonna be kicking my self for switching to the X800XT.
