way to go logitech
I hope they do really well with it, although it'd take a quantum leap in engineering to get my mx700 replaced....I like logitech products anyways though.

That's interesting because I bought the Quickcam Orbit (they provide no API, so their programs are about all that can use it in Windows; the advertised face-tracking is jerky and loud) and the diNovo keyboard/mouse (Windows key and CTRL key stopped working; the mouse just plain out sucks until you get use to it).
So the MX6xx (MX1000 wired equivalent) will be better than this MX prototype? Seeing how they're pitching LASER > optical and all that... I also wonder how well the new Bluetooth v1.2 diNovo does in comparison.

they were giving these away at the World Cyber Games in SF when I went (like in September?). It doesn't look like a laser to me underneath, but it is a VERY cool mouse. The sensitivity change buttons are very useful, but there are only 3 modes, so you still have to do some tweaking. Overall though I love mine, seems to work on anything without screwing up :D.

Funny how the previous scroll buttons from the mx510 will now be the buttons to adjust sensitivity! Will there even be that big a noticable difference between 800dpi vs. 1600dpi?? Kinda like how a monitor could display millions of different shades of colors but the human eye can only see a fraction of them :)

So do you have one right now?
I don't think I will ever need anything more than the basic Logitec optical mouse.
But I know that at least Logitech will never make a mouse as stupid as A4Tech's NB-30. It claims to be a wirless mouse that requires no battery.
According to the review on this very site, I uses a cross inductive surface to power the mouse. The retarded thing is, while technicaly the mouse has no wires, the power outputing mouse pad does. A usb cable to power the pad and to operate the reciver built into the pad. I mean it would be alright if you could use the mouse without the mouse pad, however you would need a recharge able battery wouldn't you, and an an RF receifer, I belive that it is infa red since you will be using on the pad which means that you will always be line of sight to the reciever. Therefore this is one the most dumbest ideas for a wireless mouse that is not truely wireless. For 39.99 I think I stick with the standard usb optical mouse.

Notice the cable coming out of the mouse pad. According to the main site it has no battery, in other words you need to use that pad wich is restricted by a wire! pretty dumb huh?

800, just like the MX510.

The 518 has a hardware switch that will instantly change the sensitivity from 800 to 1200 to 1600DPI. Need twitchy response for fast maneuvering, done. Slow things down for sniping? Done. Overall, a really bright idea, I look forward to Logitech announcing it. µ
sounds great !

So do you have one right now?
YES. so do about half the ppl who went to wcg.
How long is the cord? I have been using my home theater PC for gaming lately and found my MX900 to be seriously lacking for hard core frag sessions. I am not willing to try an MX1000 because at this point I am just turned off to the idea of a wireless mouse for gaming. For surfing my MX900 is great, but it's just not accurate enough in a FPS role.
With that said, I am just not ready to give up playing games on my 50 inch DLP, so I need a specific mouse to break out for game sessions. I guess I can always use a USB cable extension. Does anyone know if this will have a serious impact on response time? Something the length of a standard Xbox cable should work. Knowing that XBOX controllers are USB devices with custom plugs, I think I should be ok.

almost 6 feet exactly. yeah, you wont have sensitivity problems with this. If I turn the sensitivity all the way up I have to turn the in-game mouse sensitivity options in hl2 down to almost nothing or it flies all over the place.

The 1000 is 800 dpi.
I really see no need in 1600 dpi.
It's all about marketing.
