i mean, isnt the 24 pipe card coming in only a few months?
would it be stupid to get a 6800gt now?

if you wait you will never buy anything because new stuff is always on the horizon.

No. They will be announced in a few months and it will probably be a few more months before you can actually get your hands on one.

....as I impatiently wait and wait on my pci-e 6800gt's to ship

The current series is a great set of cards and should last quite a while.

And like someone said above - if you wait there is always something better on the horizon. Not to mention that the next cards may have the 'very limited' availability the 6800 Ultra's did at launch.

Hell you could make it longer than summer with a 5950, unless of course you are on of those guys that needs to run everything at 1600x1200 4x8x max detail. :p

If I were looking to buy an new GFX today I would wait and get an SLI compatible card. By the time you need to upgrade an extra GT should be pretty cheap.

The 6800 series is a very capable set of cards. There's still a lot of untapped potential devs are going to be taking advantage of (hell look at how CPU limited HL2 was... and that game was absolutely gorgeous).

I'd say buy now (you won't be disapointed), and if in a few months something much bigger and badder comes down the pike, you can always sell your "outdated" 6800 (probably for around $200 or more) and take some of the sting out of buying the next BIG thing.

If you get a 6800 GT or Ultra .... it will last you AT LEAST a year and probably much longer. Very solid and kick ass card. Money well spent.

You Should wait.
U have a 5950, will do well untill nv5x. i am sure you should wait.
(Onli thing in mi mind is, if the nv5x series will be pci-e only, wich i doubt will be, then ... )
